My point in highlighting "Ennui" is that it seems to be the condition of a great many college-educated women these days.
I've watched a lot of YT videos about relationships, divorce, etc. The oft-repeated statistic that 70-80% of all divorces are initiated by women, and that an oft-repeated reason given is "boredom." "He's not exciting." "All he does is work all the time."
It seems that women, particularly young women, believe that their lives have no meaning, that they're being left out, that they're "missing out on life."
They divorce their husbands and try to re-start their lives as a 20-year-old. They find out that the world doesn't react to them at age 35 with quite the interest they got when they were 20. Then it's "What a surprise! A look of terminal shock in your eyes."
I was making the connection between "White women, college..." and the interest in radical politicans like Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed. They are looking for excitement. Someone handsome and dynamic, who will "shake things up."
The SNL skit was pretty funny. I could tell you what happened but they would ruin the funny surprise. It is only about a minute.

When I was an MIT freshman, we studied the Odyssey, the Oresteia, and the Aeneid. Then we studied the Old and New Testaments, Augustine, and Dante’s “The Divine Comedy”. We used these materials as background to develop our writing ability, coached by junior faculty from Harvard as well as MIT.
Such a course of study would be a potential antidote to the “Noo” Socialist/muslim propaganda of the likes of El-Sayed.
However, 2026 college students have been raised on the cellphone, which has diminished their ability to think and write. Then there is AI, which many students might use to do their writing for them.
Not good!

Used to be that when someone graduated college they were able to discern truth from fiction, reality from fantasy, and they had learned something about American history, political theory, and moral values.
This all generally prevailed Maybe pre- 1960’s or so

One was a particularly bright and inquisitive teenage girl, I think she was a year or two younger than my son.
We met at parties where lots of families gathered. She is Chinese.
We had a number of conversations about liberal vs. conservative, when she was in high school.
She went to an Ivy League college, and I didn't see much of her for four or five years.
When at last I got to talk to her again, she was 25 or so. I had been looking forward to it.
The conversation was very short. She almost immediately pronounced me "judgmental," and after a few iterations of that I excused myself.
She had been turned into an absolute little propaganda Chatty Cathy. It was disappointing, and maybe even a little disturbing.
There was trouble in her family. Her parents had a weird relationship; I won't go into the details.
