She was the most-quoted voice in PEN America’s July 9 report, “A Silent Moratorium,” on the freezing-out of Jewish and Israeli writers. Twenty-four hours later, PEN’s own president resigned over the suggestion that boycotting Jews might be a form of discrimination. Keene says while she may be pushed out of publishing, she will not go quietly. She assumes Big Five publishing will not correct itself, so she is building the record, on the theory that testimony written down while it happens is the one thing that survives.

Can you translate the publishing gobbledygook into layman’s terms?
This is how it starts.
It is not surprising the big five publishing houses are anti-Jewish.
They have been anti-Christian for a long time.

PEN (originally short for Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists, and Novelists) was founded in London in 1921 to promote friendship and international co-operation among writers everywhere, and to defend literature and free expression wherever they are threatened.
Where has this woman been? Obviously missed history classes.
1921 London-friendship and international cooperation with “writers” from the USSR. Given the year and city and membership-it started out as a hard left organization I suspect.
There are few heterosexual male novel writers being published as well. Women have taken over this business.
Everything old is new again. Publishing houses were very antisemitic about 100 years ago. Then they started employing a lot of Jews. I’m not going to say that made them pro-Jewish but they weren’t anti-Jewish from probably 1960 through maybe 2000. Then things started to turn again as the kids who learned that Jews were part of the white colonizer class came to power in the liberal publishing houses. So while the reasons for the antisemitism may be different, the result is the same.
