The last NY Times poll had Platner 49% and Collins 47%. The polls seem to agree that this race is close.

Some weeks ago Platner was “ahead” by 7 points. It looks like a 10 point swing.
If the Maine Republicans had any political sense (I doubt they have), they would be running ads from now to November quoting the AFL-CIO official who this morning called for the execution of Democrats who do not support Planter.
Now he is saying he was only joking; response Hitler was not joking about the liquidation of the Jews; Stalin and Lenin were not joking about the liquidation of the kulaks. It is no joke to talk about executing political opponents.
