Revolver has spent years exposing lawfare, unjust political prosecutions, like what the Biden regime did to Douglass Mackey, selective justice, and the weaponization of the courts against Americans who find themselves on the “wrong side” of politics. We don’t suddenly stop caring about due process because the defendants are on the left.
If prosecutors twist the law, hide evidence, punish free speech, or use the justice system to settle political wars, we’ll happily call it out.
But that’s not some free pass to take a violent, armed attack, take out every inconvenient fact, call an ambush a “protest,” and demand that Americans pretend the convictions are proof of Trump-era tyranny.
But of course, that’s exactly what’s now happening with the eight Antifa radicals who were sentenced in connection with the July 4, 2025, attack at the Prairieland Detention Center in Texas. The headline being sold to the public is simple: alleged Antifa activists received monstrous prison sentences over a simple ICE protest.
Isn’t that a tidy little tale?
Too bad it’s not true.
The media and left are missing the part where a group of Antifa extremists arrived in tactical gear, with firearms and explosives, and shot an officer in the neck. That’s not a protest… that’s called terrorism and attempted murder.
And speaking of that, the organizer of the plot was convicted of attempted murder and received 100 years. The other sentences ranged from 30 to 70 years after convictions on charges like rioting, weapons and explosives offenses, material support for terrorism, and obstruction.
These are hardcore, serious charges that were backed up with facts and convictions.
It’s unfair and a straight-up lie to call this case “lawfare.”
But that’s exactly what the left is doing. They’re yet again claiming our precious democracy is at stake. This post is from a left-wing civil rights lawyer.
Alec Karakatsanis:
The sentences handed down today are a huge threat to the possibility of a democratic society. The prosecution is rife with constitutional violations, but 30 years in prison (more than anyone for January 6) for moving some magazines? 50 years in prison even for those not involved in planning the protest? The evidence of an illegal conspiracy is non-existent, but this is how the authoritarian dragnet targets those fighting against repression. Everyone should be learning about this case.
This guy wants to turn the case into some “warning” about authoritarianism and claims there was no real conspiracy and basically says the sentences are punishment for something as harmless as “moving magazines.”
Those claims only work if Americans are kept really away from the evidence.
Also, we checked Mr. Karakatsanis’ X account, and we didn’t see any posts about the unjust sentences, treatment, and lawfare against J6 defendants.
But Alec is right about one thing: more people do need to learn about this case. They should learn about all of it, not just the version that turns an armed attack into a sad little tale about people being punished for moving some boxes around.
So, let’s help Alec “learn” about this case.
Payton Alexander:
“Everyone should be learning about this case.”
Okay! Here’s what happened:
On the night of July 4, 2025, 11 members of a North Texas Antifa cell carried out a coordinated attack on the Prairieland Detention Center.
Earlier that day, they had conducted reconnaissance (including reporting on security of the facility), and had assembled a cache of dozens of firearms.
The group planned the attack ahead of time, including a “gear check” where the leader discussed bringing rifles and ominously “not getting arrested.”
They dressed in black uniforms and brought 11 firearms, body armor, and military-grade first aid kits (including tourniquets for gunshot wounds).
They disabled CCTV cameras at the facility, and threw fireworks and explosives to flush the officers out for a planned massacre.
When officers called 911, Lt. Thomas Gross responded. Bodycam footage shows one of the attackers yelling “get to the rifles!” as the group opened fire.
Gross was shot once in the neck, with the bullet exiting through his back, but survived and continued to fight back.
The perpetrators of the failed mass shooting were arrested and charged with offenses ranging from concealment of evidence to attempted murder.
They were found guilty by a jury of their peers, and very appropriately received sentences ranging from 30-100 years.
There. Now you know.
This kind of disinformation by foreign state-owned media is 100x worse than anything Russia has managed to pull off in the last few decades, if anything purely because it is so legitimized.

It is journalistic malpractice to state that their ties to antifa are “alleged” when the convictions have been duly handed down and the facts ascertained in court. It is even more outrageous to say they were sentenced “over ICE center protests.”They were emphatically not. They were sentenced on conviction for offenses ranging from concealment of evidence to attempted murder. They shot an officer in the neck!
Protests are allowed to be loud, disruptive, and obnoxious without becoming terrorism or an “insurrection.” But when people show up dressed like ninjas, with weapons, tactical equipment, and a plan, and somebody ends up shooting a cop, the word “protest” can’t be used to describe what happened.
Unlike their flashy, fake news title, the BBC write-up does include some of the charges and acknowledges that one defendant was convicted of attempted murder. But its headline still frames the entire case as people with “alleged ties to Antifa” being sentenced over an ICE-center protest.
That wording works overtime to change the very real, coordinated narrative of the story.
BBC:
Eight people who US prosecutors say have ties to Antifa have collectively been sentenced to 450 years in prison for their roles in a riot outside an immigration detention centre in Texas.
A former US Marine Corps reservist, who was convicted of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, was sentenced to 100 years in prison. The others’ sentences range between 30 to 70 years, according to the justice department.
Last year President Donald Trump designated Antifa – short for anti-fascist – a “domestic terrorist organisation” .
A US judge called their actions on 4 July “an assault on democracy”, while their families condemned the length of their sentences.
“The sentences handed down today make clear that Antifa terrorists who attack law enforcement and federal facilities will face swift and uncompromising justice,” Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement, condemning violent extremism.
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) said the North Texas Antifa Cell operatives began shooting off and throwing fireworks at the facility in Prairieland, just south of Dallas, on the Independence Day holiday last summer, as well as vandalising vehicles and a guard kiosk on the property.
The eight were convicted on an array of charges, including rioting, using weapons and explosives, providing material support to terrorists, and obstruction.
That’s not real reporting, it’s more like a highly choreographed dance around the facts.
Nobody should want a justice system that punishes political beliefs, criminalizes peaceful protest, or hands out sentences based on ideology. That is called lawfare, and it’s wrong no matter who’s targeted.
But nobody should be allowed to hide behind the word “protest” after a planned armed attack leaves an officer shot in the neck.
The defendants got what they deserved. Justice was served.

Now they all need to be prosecuted on state charges in Texas state court so a future Dem President can’t pardon them.
“...so a future Dem President can’t pardon them.”
Yup.
In Europe, there is not death penalty and the sentencing is very lenient compare to America.
Murderers get ~5-20 years, usually.
So 100 years looks bad from their point of view, surely.
But that’s their problem.
They should yank up the sentencing over there!
Well they have ratshita tlaib’s support so there is that.
Apparently alot of these leftist idiots fail to understand the Texas “Law of Parties”..that enables the prosecution to crush enablers with the same offense as the worst crime comited by an indiviudal in the party.
Which is why if you are “just moving magazines”..guess what? you’re also on the hook for shooting a LEO in the neck..
Big, double sentences! Its necessary to cover whichever gender they decide to be.
Had that LEO died, they could all go the Death Chamber...............
Actually, they are worried that their democracy is at stake, as it should be.
Have you noticed how so many here take the UK propaganda organs as gospel?
As it might have been the Provos and Sinn Fein during the Irish Troubles.
Our current situation is our "Troubles".
Democrat will say and do anything for power.
Many do...........
Yeah, how many pols claimed antifa was a just myth or an idea?
Jerry Nadler: "Jerry Nadler, the Democratic Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, stated that Antifa violence in Portland was a 'myth.'"
Chuck Todd: “I don't even know what Antifa is.”
Joe Biden: "Antifa is an idea. Not an Organization."
“Antifa is the direct action wing of the Democratic Party.”
Anyone want to place money that D operatives are working with some factions of the Koranimal cult to provide these terrorist-like services?
Bkmk
That would be magical.
