BREAKING - The "conservative" protest against AI data centers has an anti-ICE NGO organizer, a DSA member, Facebook money.
Other than that, totally grassroots.
Axios ran an "exclusive" Wednesday about a "conservative group" called Humans First planning a nationwide day of protest against AI data centers on July 18. Amy Kremer is chairing it and invoking the Tea Party.
Axios didn't mention that Humans First was incubated by the Center for AI Safety, an organization funded with millions from Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz. Or that its original staff included a Sunrise Movement organizer who sat in at Pelosi's office with AOC and a DSA member who organized for Kamala Harris.
NBC News described CAIS as having founded Humans First "to be a sort of Trojan horse to make AI safety issues more palatable to a conservative political audience."
@ParkerThayer exposed the Action Network backend.
As always, patience as I pull together the thread.

Uh, a bit misleading. All of the AI protests I have seen have been by NIMBYs and liberals complaining that the data centers will take all of the water and electricity.
Yes, there are some DSA involvement, but it is not a conservative cause to begin with.
Remember how 5G was going to cause brain cancer?
Same propaganda coming from the CCP.
All designed to delay or eliminate USA’s technical advantage.
All of the code jockeys I’ve worked with over the years have been Republicans. Liberals just aren’t smart enough.
And Chinese funding, no doubt...............
It is quite possible that data centers are a subject that socialists and libertarians can unite around.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
Why do you believe that an AI build-out constitutes an "advantage" that is enough to balance out its destructive effects?
Data centers should be allowed — where they pay their own way, dont create a real environmental nuisance, and are not subsidized by taxpayers.
There are better ways to deal with tech abuse than banning needed, job providing, and taxpaying technology.
The “conservatives” buying into the anti-A.I. hysteria are really just populists not Conservatives.
And if it don’t take all the water and electricity it makes too much noise I listen to their crap it’s all over Facebook
There’s still an organized effort to paint all who oppose datacenters as commies.
I think there’s a boatload of conservatives, and Freepers, that think it’s BS.
“Data centers should be allowed — where they pay their own way, dont create a real environmental nuisance, and are not subsidized by taxpayers.”
including the abatement of the awful noise millions of IC cooling fans make ...
It has long been obvious that the anti-data center movement is a Chinese psyop aimed at scaring America into giving up its lead in-tech and defense. Follow the money.
One of the issues with the data centers is that it appears a lot of people are saying no to the construction in the municipalities, but the powers that be decide that it’s going to happen anyway. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently became the face of this during a hot mic incident where she was caught saying “We’re used to people saying ‘f*** no’, and then doing it anyway.”. You and I both know she’s not the only one with that attitude, and it doesn’t know limits based on party affiliation.
I guess my being against them makes me a raging Leftist. There are very good arguments by Conservatives why those centers are bad for communities.
Have to disagree. I hear many right leaning people complaining about these data centers as one of their top issues.
Be that as it may, people of ALL stripes living near the already built and soon to be built destroyers of property value, water resources, ecological systems and noise polluters are banding together to say NO.
Anyone in this thread been impacted by a data center?
There is this huge push to gaslight the Right side on board, claiming all the protests are coming from the left and China but it’s simply not true.
And still no one has given any good explanation for the need to build these disgusting places. What are they for? Is destroying land, property, and lives worth it?
Like the covid scam and the death shot, many of us with eyes to see and ears to hear the incessant noise aren’t buying it.
Once your property value is nothing because one of these sits in sight or hearing or has poisoned your well or used all your water you have nowhere to go.
And people are not being reimbursed or bought out. It’s a dystopian horror.
Subversion is the Democrat way. Nothing they say can be taken at face value.
IF THOSE OF YOU ON FR LIVED ON PRIVATE WELLS LIKE I DO, ALONG WITH A RURAL VALLEY OF ABOUT 5,000, YOU WOULD BE PAYING ALOT MORE ATTENTION TO THE WATER USAGE OF DATA CENTERS....
