Scott Pelley, a veteran of 37 years at CBS, denounced Editor-in-chief Bari Weiss for "interfering with my freedom to report the news the way I see fit. Her demand that I include both sides of contentious issues broke faith with the essential DNA of the '60 Minutes' program. For decades we were routinely allowed to determine what we reported rather than be compelled to give any attention to ideas or information we thought was out-of-line with our version of the truth."
"For my candor, I got fired by '60 Minutes' executive producer Nick Bilton," Pelley complained. "I have to say that this is probably the worst miscarriage of justice since Jesus was crucified. I was standing up for the truth as I saw it. Now I stand to lose the multi-million dollars in salary I was counting on to feed my family."
Bilton rejected Pelley's claim "that we were insisting that he insert falsehoods into his reporting. When we're reporting on political issues where there are major disagreements it is customary to allow each side an opportunity to voice their perspective. Mr. Pelley wasn't being asked to endorse views with which he disagreed. He wasn't being prevented from offering his own opinions. What he was being prevented from doing was omitting to mention views with which he disagreed. His strident opposition to incorporating anything with which he disagreed directly defied the standards Ms. Weiss is trying to instill in CBS News programs. Because of this, firing him became necessary."

So, openly admitting that it isn't a "news" show, it's biased propaganda.
I was thinking the same thing.
How dare they give both sides of a story.
Yeah, I also love “our version of the truth”. And here I am thinking that truth doesn’t have “versions”, it either is, or it isn’t.
Pelley should have been fired years ago.
I guess this is the "semi-satire" portion of this story?
Network news is going the way of the Dodo Bird, anyway.
“...out-of-line with our version of the truth.”
Admitting that he sees more than one version of the truth is a good start.
That would happen in ANY COMPANY IN THE WORLD, yet he says he can’t believe he got fired?................He must be more stupid than I thought.............
If I'm any indication, I used to watch evening news up to about 6-8 years ago and even then it was sporadic. I used to watch the Sunday shows religiously in the 90's, now I catch anything there by accident. I even gave up my WSJ subscription a decade ago.
This is gold...good comment.
So where do you get your “news”? And I’m not talking about podcasters opinion shows.
FOX, FR, X - the last two generally provide links so if the story or news piques my interest I go to the source.
“I even gave up my WSJ subscription a decade ago.”
That’s right about when their TDS fever started to flare.
Fox is not news (my opinion, only), X and FR might be ok, but it always goes back to the source used.
They source their news, but I agree that most of their best programs are opinion on news. But that's why I loved RUSH, opinion on news.
Buh-bye, National Enquirer could use another Bat-Boy newsman.
