Sea level rise is accelerating, and we now know the biggest reason why

A thorough reexamination of scientific data has revealed that the rate of sea-level rise is accelerating, and the primary driver might not be what you think.

While melting glaciers and shrinking ice sheets are commonly understood to contribute to sea levels creeping higher, the slow and steady expansion of our oceans often goes unseen.

Yet this phenomenon is the main cause leading to higher sea levels around the world, research shows.

As water in the ocean gets warmer, it expands in space – a process known as thermal expansion – meaning seawater occupies more volume.

This expansion of water is the primary cause of sea-level rise, researchers say in a new study.

The analysis, from an international team of scientists, helps resolve some of the discrepancies seen in previous sea-level studies, where the main contributors – including melting ice and warming oceans – didn't quite add up to the sea-level rise we're seeing.

"For years, there has been a frustrating gap between how much the oceans were observed to be rising and how much we could explain from the individual causes," says mechanical engineer John Abraham, from the University of St. Thomas in the US.

"This work shows that, with better instruments, processes, and smarter analysis, this knowledge gap can be closed. We can [now] explain sea level rise with greater confidence."

This is known as balancing the global mean sea level (GMSL) budget.

Checking the numbers add up is a way of verifying the data scientists have collected, and making sure we're not missing anything in our understanding of what drives sea-level rise.

"Since 1960, the data shows, global mean sea levels have risen by an average rate of 2.06 millimeters (0.08 inches) per year."

"However, the rise is accelerating: Between 2005 and 2023, they went up by 3.94 millimeters (0.16 inches) per year – about twice the average rate."

How do they measure .08 and .16 inches, that's a ripple from a breeze.

“How do they measure .08 and .16 inches, that’s a ripple from a breeze.”

It really doesn’t matter. Keeping the scam alive is what’s important.

How do they measure .08 and .16 inches

With a feeler gauge or dial indicator. ;)

They don’t… the error bar exceeds their results.

It’s just another case of manipulating the data to get the results you want.

And here’s something else to consider. Even though it’s usually not mentioned in an article, every piece of experimental data has an estimate of uncertainty associated with it, a +/- value. Such values can be calculated.

When dealing with something the size of the Earth, the estimates of uncertainty must be large.

Large estimates of uncertainty coupled with small reported measurements:
This makes the reported measurements meaningless.

Sea level is rising owing to all the alien space craft residing under water. Like putting a brick in the full sink, it will overflow.

Some perspective:

Approximately 71% of earth is covered with water. About 96% of that is ocean. The oceans contain about 321,000,000 cubic miles of seawater. The deepest part of the ocean is about 7 miles. That is about one mile deeper than Mount Everest is high. And these so-called scientists are worried about 0.16 of an inch per year? They are probably Democrats.

I’ll be 80 years old in four weeks. At my my little corner of the NC Outer Banks, the sea level is right where it’s been since I was in kindergarten.

0.16 inches per year? That would mean that a spot now at the water’s edge will be almost knee-deep only a century from now! We’re doomed!

In other news shoreline properties are now selling at deep discounts because of fear of rising seas....

Oops.

Fake news.

Two things. First, the rate of sea level rise, 2mm per year, is not ‘accelerating.’ That’s based on data cherry-picked from coastlines with sinking land. Second, ‘thermal expansion’ is well-known, has been hypothesized and factored in to projections for years. Nothing new here. Just Cult members desperately shuffling the same old cards, hoping for a better hand.

The receding shoreline along the East coast is thought by many to be from sea rise but is actually from erosion as wind and waves (N’oreasters) displace the sand out into the ocean or further South.
