Buttigieg leads crowded 2028 Democratic field in new poll

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is leading in new polling on a hypothetical Democratic presidential primary as the party seeks a new path after 2024 losses.

An Emerson College Polling survey released Thursday found Buttigieg at the top of the pack with 18 percent support, followed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) at 16 percent.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) notched 11 percent support, while Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) and former Vice President Kamala Harris — the party’s 2024 nominee — earned 10 percent each.

Another 9 percent of survey respondents backed Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D), and 18 percent were undecided.

The new numbers mark a slight uptick in recent months for Buttigieg, Ocasio-Cortez and Beshear — while support for Newsom and Harris has ticked down slightly.

Buttigieg hinted at a possible 2028 presidential run in remarks at the National Action Network conference last month.

“When you ran for president, you met me and we went up to a well-publicized lunch at Sylvia’s Restaurant in Harlem. Just so my calendar is clear. Should I be reserving a table at Sylvia’s? Are you going to run again?” Rev. Al Sharpton asked Buttigieg at the conference.

From a purely objective standpoint: Jon Ossoff of Georgia would have likely risen to the top. He commands a crowd and speech way better than any one on that list. But he says he’s not running. Sticking to the Senate. And from there he keeps Georgia in play for Democrats.

To be fair, if Buttigieg has 18% support, by definition has also 82% non-support.

Running 2% above the next leading contender isn't much to crow about. It's way too early to start singling out any one candidate for either party. Even Vance or Rubio are not a lock. A lot can happen between now and when the smoke clears.

Why is Mayor Pete leading?

He has more civility and class than the other candidates.

On the issues he is just as far left as the others.

But the others are just in your face vulgar.

NEVER forget Pete beat Biden in Iowa in 2020 and the party elite kept it secret until Joey could get to South Carolina where kingmaker Clyburn gave him the black vote and in a South Carolina Democrat primary that is giving him the win.

Running a homosexual for president is about as smart as running a Mormon.

Yes, I remember in 2020, they said they had a new app to report the Iowa caucus results. And reports were there were problems with operations of the app, so results were not announced promptly that night.

It’s good news to see that a total lightweight with absolutely no-accomplishments is in the lead to be the Dem’s nominee.

If he is their fav, its only because no one else wants the job.
This is why McCain was “picked” to run for President.

Out of a pool of 80 million Democrat voters (true, some might be dead), the best you can offer the American people is: Buttigieg, Ocasio-Cortez, Beshear, Newsom, and Harris? Man, that is really sad...
