Photo of Trump in China Stirs Controversy [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 17 May 2026 | John Semmens

Posted on 05/17/2026 11:47:00 AM PDT by John Semmens

Recently published photos of President Trump sharing a toast during a formal dinner on his visit to China were cited as "additional evidence for impeaching him" by Rep. John Larson (D-Conn). "I've already filed articles of impeachment. Donald Trump has blown past every requirement to be removed from office. And it's getting worse. People across my district know he is unfit to lead and are calling for impeachment. Now that he has demonstrated that his claim that he never touches alcohol is a bare-faced lie it's time the rest of Congress joins me in voting to start the process of removing him from office."

Newsweek acknowledged that "these toasts are ceremonial in nature. Non-alcoholic beverages are often substituted for dignitaries like Muslims whose religion forbids their consumption of alcohol. Our attempts to get confirmation on whether this was the case for President Trump's apparent sipping from what appeared to be a champagne glass in China have not yet been successful. This leaves the entire nation to wonder whether he has or hasn't broken his reputed vow of sobriety and may cause doubt about his fitness for office."

Larson asserted "whether he was or wasn't drinking is not important. The simulation of drinking itself is evidence of the kind of deception that makes him unfit to serve. This vindicates my action to have him impeached. This comes on top of the statement from three dozen neurologists, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals who sent a letter to Congress expressing their expert opinion that Donald J. Trump is mentally unfit to be the President of the United States, and that steps to remove him from office must be undertaken with the greatest urgency, with vital responsibilities on the shoulders of those in positions of leadership."

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt rebuffed Larson's contention, saying "the only thing that has been vindicated is that the Congressman has bolstered the evidence that he has Trump Derangement Syndrome. None of the so-called 'mental health professionals' he cites has ever personally examined the President. Their publication of their opinions on the President's fitness for office is a breach of medical ethics. Mr. Larson hates the President and is assembling a catalog of slanders to try to convince others that the President needs to be impeached. We don't see logic or reasoning at work here. We see blind hatred and political posturing."

In related news, Former CIA Director John Brennan tried to reassure MSNOW anchor Nicolle Wallace "there's still a legion of professionals in the law enforcement environment, Department of Justice, as well as the CIA and other places who are refusing to support any type of political activities on the part of the Trump administration that are inconsistent with the purposes of the permanent government and will physically take him out if they deem it necessary to protect our democracy."

Kind of like how Dean Martin would have iced tea in the glass rather than Scotch.

I remember in 1964 when a committee of harebrained psychiatrists advertised that Barry Goldwater was mentally incapable of being President (LBJ, who may have killed his predecessor and started a war he didn’t intend to win, was just fine with them). We see these same weirdos saying the same thing about Trump with not a word about the obvious senescence and senility of his predecessor.

How stupid would it have looked if Trump didn’t participate in the toast because he doesn’t drink? They would have attacked him for that as well.

If he walks on water, they say he can’t swim.

It have looked undiplomatic if Trump didn’t
participate in the toast because he doesn’t drink.

It is de rigeur at these official events that a non alcoholic
beverage is provided for dignitaries who do not imbibe.

Yes, same with Jackie Gleason on his later talk shows, in tea cups.

Coincidentally, Dean Martin and Donald Trump are Geminis.

Geminis with two major careers each: Trump with major building projects and political triumphs and Dean Martin with hit records and movies.

Thanks. Believe it or not I have never seen an episode of the Sopranos. It was during the long decades I didn’t watch TV.

If stupidity were a disqualification for serving in Congress, we would only have about 12 in Congress instead of 535.

I doubt that too many of the shrinks that he refers to would call Rep. John Larson (D-Conn) sane, or fit for office. Perhaps Connecticut should recall him. What exactly has he done for his constituents other than flap his big lips?
