The United Kingdom has fallen. It’s a country where people are jailed for flipping off traffic cameras, where social media posts can also land you in prison, and where smoking is now banned for anyone born after January 1, 2009. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, and it makes one proud to be American that they are not part of this chaos. And HBO’s Bill Maher was not shy about discussing it either.

I think the only reason Canada hasn’t gone the same route is because it’s too easy for their citizens to move here, and they know it.

Indeed. I run into that more and more on FR, posters who excerpt a tiny amount of content from a paywalled or membership-only website.
If I'm feeling gracious and forgiving, I assume they simply forgot that they have a subscription and the rest of us don't.
If I'm feeling disappointed and cranky, however, I suspect they're shilling for the website.
Tonight I'm disappointed and cranky. Grr-r-rr. I, too, would have liked to know what Maher said.
I guess some day I'll meet my Maker devoid of that precious knowledge. Oh well.

That’s my default assumption as well.
I just chalk it up to “these modern times” and move on. There’s plenty to choose from at the information smorgasbord.
The most-elegant and most-gracious solution would be to provide a transcript of the utterances in question - or at least a summary of what was said.
Maher's thoughts on the matter won't be especially insightful, or Earth-shaking - he's no Christopher Hitchins, after all, and he can often be quite annoying. But you have piqued our interest, and when the site in question is behind a bothersome paywall (even if IT specialists know a "work-around"), or the content is not necessarily "safe for work," a 100-word summary would be appreciated.

It’s not a paywall - if you look at the notice that comes up - you can click the “X” in the top-right corner and get to the article.
For actual paywalls, I highlight the FR headline and do a search and often find a version of the same article on a non-paywall source.
