President Donald Trump said Friday night that the United States military could decide to relocate the troops that are currently stationed in Germany and move them to Poland.
The president touted his friendship with the country's leader, President Karol Nawrocki, who assumed office last year. The Pentagon previously indicated that the U.S. would move 5,000 troops from Germany in the next six to 12 months.
“Well, Poland would like that," Trump told reporters at the White House. "We have a great relationship with Poland. I have a great relationship with the president. I endorsed him, and he won. He came from way behind, and he won. He's a great fighter, he's a great guy. I like him a lot, so that's possible.”
Germany is currently home to the largest U.S. military presence in Europe, with more than 35,000 troops currently stationed in the country, and is also viewed as crucial to the U.S.'s presence on the continent.
The United Kingdom and Italy also host over 10,000 U.S. troops each. Poland currently hosts 369 permanently assigned active-duty service members and about 10,000 personnel of rotational force, according to Reuters.

Poland!?!? Move them HOME to the U.S. and all the rest. Euros can take care of themselves. Femboy Nazis have plenty of money.
Sounds like the game of Risk and we’re pondering moves.
The world hates us. Bring all our troops home.
The world’s Deep States hate our republic.
There is a difference.
The president knows what he’s doing.
Dear Germany, it's been real. See ya.
Poland is one of the good guys. Unlike the weenies in Western Europe, Poland is trying to resist the Muslim invasion and save its culture.
Nevertheless, you’re right. It’s not 1945 anymore. Europe is now rich enough to take care of itself. Their choice. Just leave us out of it.
We’re going to need an ally in the global war against mohommedism. Poland fills the bill.
Poland will stab us in the back just a fast. Bring them home!
Naivete will get you killed. There are no good guys.
Once the Ukraine/Russia thing gets resolved one way or another, Putin's anti Islam posture can only be a very positive feature in the new configuration of things over there.
If we have learned anything with the Trump administration, we should know by now that nothing is impossible! We have to hope that his 'cand do' approach to things will carry forward with the next Conservative in the WH!
I thought Poland elected the liberal pro EU guy last year, so was thinking they weren’t any better than the rest. Am I incorrect on that?
“with more than 35,000 troops currently stationed in the country,”
Perhaps meeting the numbers halfway for a time would be satisfactory, if I joined the military these days I’d like to be in a foreign country for awhile, rotate them in/out for the coming year or two.
Hope so. Otherwise it's newsome and his 'canned doo' approach.
> I thought Poland elected the liberal pro EU guy last year… <
No. The current president of Poland is a conservative. He’s skeptical of the EU. His opponent was the liberal.
Perhaps you’re thinking of Hungary. Both prime minister candidates were conservative. The less-conservative, more pro-EU guy won. Time will tell how he works out.
This makes a lot more sense than the threats to end NATO altogether. Especially if Ukraine is on the verge of becoming a NATO member based on their valiant fight against Russia, as almost no one gave them a prayer of lasting this long originally. Anyone angered by that thought is likely suffering from sour Russian grapes.
Would we want foreign troops stationed in our country? Bring them home.
Why? Just bring them home.
The world’s Deep States are all the same Deep State as our own.
