South Vietnam didn’t fall because it was beaten. It fell because it was betrayed.

Fifty-one years ago today, April 30, 1975, the last American helicopter lifted off the Saigon embassy roof.

We had won. Nixon and Kissinger’s Paris Peace Accords forced the North to recognize South Vietnam’s sovereignty. America promised air power and supplies if they violated it. The ARVN was finally ready to defend itself.

Then Watergate. Democrats won huge majorities in 1974. They slashed aid by over 75%, banned any U.S. response to Soviet rearmament of the North, and watched as the Communists violated every agreement.

No bullets. No gas. No tires for their Jeeps.

South Vietnam collapsed—not from lack of courage, but abandonment by the same Democrats that sent our sons to die there a decade earlier.

What followed wasn’t peace. It was hell.

The Domino Theory wasn’t wrong. Cambodia and Laos fell. Pol Pot—praised by the American left as “Cambodia’s George Washington”—murdered 1/3 of his own people.

A million sent to re-education camps in Vietnam. Half a million murdered. Two million boat people fled; nearly half a million drowned.

I was eight, standing in a church hall in Arkansas, looking up at a South Vietnamese flag on a refugee’s lapel. I just wept and said “I’m sorry” over and over.

We should all still be sorry.

The left and the Dems are responsible for over two million deaths in Southeast Asia. But they will never ever admit that.

I got out just after TET. The voice of Walter Conkrite saying to the world “This war is lost” pretty much did it. The North Vietnam general wrote a book and said they were going to surrender, until he heard that broadcast.

My admiration for Vietnam veterans is immense. The betrayal of them burns me to no end. I’m sorry for how this must hurt them deeply.

After having served a year in Vietnam in the Army, I went back after all troops were pulled out as a civilian contractor working for Lear-Siegler from Aug. 1974-Oct. '74, supposedly to teach the ARVN's) Army of the Republic of South Vietnam) how to maintain all the aircraft we left with them, I was an Army avionics tech, I knew all the avionics systems on Army helicopters.

Well, to make a long story short, the ARVN's didn't want to learn, they had already given up.

Daily I would see many C-130 aircraft returning to Tan Son Nhut Air Base piled high with dead ARVN's who were vastly over-powered by the Communist troops.

A very sad experience.

There’s a goodly sized Vietnamese community here in Albuquerque, mostly refugees. They opened businesses, and contributed to the city. Never whined or lobbied for “privlages”. I get my truck worked on at a shop that is 95% Vietnamese, and they do great work (every customer I’ve seen there is happy). There are many restaurants, and I get my Pho fix as needed.

The level of corruption in the South Vietnamese government didn’t help anything.

Let's see how many have the intellectual rigor to apply the same principles to our withdrawal of support for Ukraine.

The Ukrainians, in contrast to Vietnam, have shown themselves resourceful and courageous enough to fight the invaders to a standstill.

Further in contrast, it is a Republican administration that has reneged on our explicit national commitment to Ukraine, while leftist Democrats, odious as they are, have not

The author oversimplifies things here. By 1973 the U.S. military campaign in Vietnam had already lasted longer than both world wars and Korea combined. This country was in no shape — politically or economically — to live up to any military commitments to South Vietnam.

“It is estimated that between 1.5 million and 2 million people died under Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia between 1975 and 1979. This figure represents approximately 20% to 25% (around one-quarter) of the country’s population at the time.” A want to be. He lived to be an old man.

Bullcrap. Both Obama and Biden got Ukraine invaded.
And Biden tried to abandon Ukraine but there was a bipartisan push in Congress to stop him.
Then they played the Russia collusion game against Trump.

President Trump has never abandoned Ukraine. He has tried to bring about a sensible end to the war.
