Hungarian Member of European Parliament Péter Magyar has been hailed by leading globalists on both sides of the Atlantic for his convincing victory over Prime Minister Viktor Orbán during Sunday’s parliamentary elections; however, it remains unclear how the supposed centre-right politician will govern in Budapest.
Just two years after splitting from Orbán’s Fidesz party, Péter Magyar, 45, whose Tisza (Respect and Freedom) Party rocketed from relative obscurity to victory on Sunday, is set to be elevated from a lowly MEP role to the highest government office in Hungary after securing enough votes for a super majority in the Országgyűlés parliament.
His decisive win over Orbán, who had long stood as a counterweight to the neo-liberal Brussels agenda, has instantly earned Magyar golden boy status for arch globalists, including longtime Orbán nemesis Ursula von der Leyen.
The unelected president of the European Commission said on Monday, “Today, Europe is Hungarian. We are stronger. More united. To the people of Hungary – you’ve done it again. You have spoken. You have chosen Europe. It’s a victory for fundamental freedoms.”
Von der Leyen and her cohort in Brussels have been accused of engaging in election interference by withholding billions in funding from Hungary over domestic legislation passed by the outgoing Orbán government. The tacit implication has long been that if the Hungarian people voted out the populist PM, the spigots of EU cash would once again flow, as was the case when Poland voted out its conservative government in 2023 in favour of a ‘liberal’ government led by former EU Council chief Donald Tusk.

Will the EU turn on him to get a full on leftist installed?

I’m American, but I have a passport, wonder how I could elected to the parliament.
It's like having a presidential candidate here named Joe America.
His ex-wife wrote a book with some rather disturbing allegations against Mr. Magyar.
i’m glad this guy is elected, the last one orbana is too close to china for my liking.
Iin sum, Hungary just elected their own Obama.
Massive MSM propaganda to cover his past, while painting all his plans in vague, pastel tones
Get ready for “fundamental transformation.”
I believe Hungary will regret their choice.
This one is too close to Soros and Obama and Clinton and the EU for my liking.
Isn’t this guy anti-immigrant? Wants no one coming in.
The guy couldn’t have a more popular name in Hungary.
Magyar refers to a member of the dominant people of Hungary and is also the name for the Hungarian language. The term is derived from the name of one of the prominent tribes, the Megyer, that formed the basis of the Hungarian identity.
I talked to my sister about this and she said she was aware of others with the name so it’s not unique or unheard of. Odd for us outside of Hungarian circles but it exists. Not sure if it also happens to other ethnic groups or is some quirk of Hungarians. We can be pretty quirky. :)
I asked A.I. same thing. It said he was anti-illegal immigrant in policy.
It also said something surprising; illegal immigration actually peaked under Orban. After he got the wall built it fell drastically so I guess one can interpret that in different ways.
Not a problem or something unusual in Europe.
As Hungarian expert you should know what the names Toth and Horwath mean.
There are lots of names like German, English, French, Dutch, Irish, Ireland, Deutsch, Bohm, Pollak or Polak, Maltese, Albanese (current PM of Australia), Greco or Grecu, Turk, Veronese, Genovese, Napolitano (all former Italian kingdoms), Spagnolo, Gallego, Russek, Moskal, even Miranda, etc, etc.
I'm willing to wait and see. Everything is Click bait so hundreds of thousands of opinion piece "Scribes" can get paid.
e.g. T. Carlson, Kelly, GP etc.
He’s a Soros lackey, just as are the Obozo and the Hag. Hungary just stepped all over their weenie.
Steve Turley said he ran to the right of Victor and Hungary’s Parliament doesn’t have any leftist in the body...
Obama and Clinton are going to be surprised.
The Tisza party is center-right and national-conservative. Its leader, Péter Magyar, is a former Fidesz member - he was a high-level insider in Orbán’s own party for over a decade. He didn’t rise to power because of “globalist” funding, but because he blew the whistle on internal scandals—specifically the 2024 clemency case—that disgusted Fidesz’s own conservative base.
Magyar comes from a deeply conservative family and has stated he still agrees with many of Fidesz’s original Christian-democratic values. He didn’t run to ‘destroy’ Hungarian culture; he ran to ‘clean up’ the corruption he saw from the inside. One of the main reasons he won over rural voters is that he promised to keep the border fence and reject the EU Migration Pact.
Tisza has explicitly rejected the EU Migration and Asylum Pact and they want to keep the Hungarian Forint rather than immediately adopting the Euro and maintains a conservative stance on border security. Since Magyar’s win on April 12, the Forint has actually strengthened against the Euro. Investors aren’t betting on the currency disappearing; they’re betting on it finally being managed competently
If you look at the Tisza Party manifesto, they aren’t ‘federalists.’ They are center-right reformers who want to keep Hungarian decision-making in Hungary, but they want to do it without the corruption that got the country’s EU funds frozen in the first place.
as to the results -- Yes! Hungary has NO leftist parties in parliament :)
It has two center-right parties: Tisza and Fidesz and a third party, "Mi hazank Mozgalom" which is FAR right :)
