Most of the country saw population growth slow down or even reverse in 2025, new data from the U.S. Census Bureau reveals.
Of the country’s more than 3,000 counties, about 80% saw declining population or slower growth between July 2024 and July 2025. Counties that were already shrinking also saw that trend accelerate.
One major reason for the drop, according to the agency, was a significant decline in international immigration to the U.S. in the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term. The biggest swings were along the U.S.-Mexico border. Laredo, Texas; Yuma, Arizona; and El Centro, California, all saw big drops in population growth.
The change was noticeable in large metro areas as well, even if they are far from the southern border.
“The nation’s largest counties like those in the New York metro area are often international migration hubs, gaining large numbers of international migrants and losing people that move to other parts of the country via domestic migration,” said George M. Hayward, a Census Bureau demographer. “With fewer gains from international migration, these types of counties saw their population growth diminish or even turn into loss.”

Deportation and self deportation...Great moves for our country...
“The biggest swings were along the U.S.-Mexico border. Laredo, Texas; Yuma, Arizona; and El Centro, California, all saw big drops in population growth.”
What?!? Nuh-uh...racist!
“significant decline in international immigration to the U.S.”
should read: ‘significant decline in illegal immigration to the U.S.’
Where to?
non-replacement birthrate. Abortions in D states kill so many
Self Deportation & Tom’s invite.
TX, FL, TN, GA.
Sometimes the immigrants from NY to GA might be worse that the immigrants from Mex to GA. The immigrants from NY don’t seem to understand why they and their friends left NY. Many bring with them the reasons why they left. They are hard working, well intentioned people who still think FREE MONEY grows on trees.
And here in GA the Republicans are so busy fighting each other they do not seem to be an attractive option.
GA is lost if the Republicans don’t stop throwing dirt at each other and start positive educating on the real issues.
These stories are becoming a regular sight. Hummmmm, lower populace. Why? Could it be the thing which we weren’t allowed to speak of? Could it be because young people are... Sterile? Could it be the number of miscarriages as risen... A lot? Probably not. It’s just the Boomers heading out and young folks not doing what young folks used to do. Probably...
Laredo is booming. Perhaps illegals have left, but wealthier Mexicans are fleeing there for safety.
Demonstrating how the entire Dim illegal immigration promotion is 100% about the census every decade and that census counting all the illegals in “blue” districts.
“all saw big drops in population growth”
A slowed rate of growth is not the same as “shrinking.”
My entire COUNTY has 20,000 people in it and a few hundred thousand cows.
That’s more than enough for me. ;)
Take a look at our system. The incentives are not there for people to get married especially men.
Also, we have a generous welfare system so everyone gets social security.
Agreed. It's happening everywhere unless you live in a $#itty third world nation.
An estimated 1,126,000 clinician-provided abortions occurred in the United States in 2025
RFK had shoulder surgery a couple weeks back - you won’t see him for a awhile, if you do he is probably pretty mediated. Surgeons lie about how difficult the recovery is for most people - otherwise people won’t do it to paraphrase my wife’s surgeon.
Perhaps they were raptured. 😁🤙
