Starmer May Have Just Broken NATO
The Telegraph ^ | Mar 18, 2026 | Nile Gardiner

he war in Iran has emphatically demonstrated American military might on the world stage. There is only one superpower in the world today, and it isn’t headquartered in Moscow, Beijing or London. Alongside Israel, the United States has decimated much of Iran’s defenses, air force, navy, ballistic missile sites, nuclear infrastructure, and its political leadership. All in the space of just three weeks.

The Iran war has also sharply exposed simmering deep-seated tensions in the transatlantic alliance, as well as the open cowardice, petulance and weakness of European leaders, including among its increasingly diminished major powers—principally the UK, France and Germany, as well as the European Union, representing 27 member states.

Starmer’s craven reaction to America’s latest intervention in the Middle East has been nothing short of abysmal, and has confirmed everything Donald Trump has previously said about the fecklessness and unreliability of America’s European allies. In the wake of conversations with U.S. administration officials and Congressional staffers since the war began, I fear the long-term impact upon the cohesion of the transatlantic partnership and the NATO alliance will be far reaching and destructive. Many here view the pathetic European response to the Iran war as a knife in the back for the American people.

The anger in Washington at NATO allies lies far beyond the White House and the Executive Branch. Members of Congress have been queuing up to express their disappointment in the failure of European allies to heed the President’s call to join the United States in ensuring the safe passage of international shipping through the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Germany and the rest of those countries are nothing but trash.

The US should commandeer the remaining ballistic missiles and send them the EU’s way.

We need to test them to find out how good they are, so fire them all.

Iran's stuff surely can't make it there. If it does, well, then, Iran was a very active threat to the EU, after all.

It was called the Strait of Muz until Starmer’s mom went there.

While NATO at inception was a laudable idea, its current iteration has morphed. To the member nations, NATO serves as a protective umbrella which while costing them little, it facilitates the growth of their overly-generous welfare systems. The byproduct of course is to make our own homegrown leftists screech in anger that the US doesn’t also provide similar giveaways, along with paying to protect the whole of NATO.

When the Hammer and Sickle flag came down ,for the last time, from the Kremlin , on Christmas day 1991, that is when the United States should have left NATO. The damn fool politicians in Europe have sold out their own people and invited in invaders. Europe use to crusade against the same enemy in more patriotic times.

That could be one good thing to come out of this war. The end of NATO.

I would NEVER ask my neighbors to send their children to fight for censorious islamophiles.

North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
NATO.
An attack on one member is an attack on all.
That is the deal.
We can’t just walk away on this one and we could
use some local help.
America has done such a good job protecting NATO
members that they diverted their resources
to political ends as opposed to self defense ends;
In other words they used taxes to buy
votes rather than buying tanks, missiles and guns.

Given the weakness of Russia, I’d walk away from NATO.
and concentrate on the Pacific, American continents,
and the Poles, North and South.

“We can’t just walk away on this one and we could

The local help ain’t comin’, ever, and therefore we SHOULD DEFINITELY walk away.

Britain has, what, ONE (1) naval ship? NO aircraft carriers that are deployable? Fer cryin’ out loud.

They’ve been using MY TAX MONEY to spend on a muslim invasion to displace native Brits.

F ‘em, I say.

To be fair, their military was probably pretty well taxed defending Greenland from the U.S.

“When the Hammer and Sickle flag came down ,for the last time, from the Kremlin , on Christmas day 1991, that is when the United States should have left NATO.”

A lot of people were saying that at the time. But the US political system failed to have a public debate on the future of NATO. A few years later Bubba led NATO into an offensive war in Serbia this settling the issue. Perhaps now, under Trump, we can have that debate.

And even worse is the amount of American forces we are posting in other countries. These troops have, for 75 years now taken their pay and used it to pump up other countries economies. Every dollar spent on food, fuel, groceries etc is a drain on our economy and a boom to the European economies. Bring them home, and our dollars too.

The dirty little secret is that NATO wasn’t established to defend Europe against the Soviets. It was established to defend Europe against Germany.

In gulf war 2, despite aggressive lobbying by the Bush administration, the only NATO member to join us was UK, and a small group of special forces from Poland. And somehow that didn’t “break” NATO. Wars in Iraq and Iran are not what NATO was built for. Nor is it built to defend Taiwan.

Ok people. Look at what we see that we didn’t before Trump came along. Do we pull the rug out from under the Europeans? Our enemy is Islam and the Chicoms. I’d let whoever steps forward to be our allies. We got trade, money, and military might. In a new world order the Mediterranean folk can keep their siestas while the rest of Eurasia works and prospers. No need to make them see things our way.

We didn’t need NATO after the collapse of USSR in 1991.

The MIC wants you to believe that China is our enemy just like Russia. But they are great powers so we should treat them with respect and trade with them if it benefits us
