Germany will remain in the running for the 2036 Summer Olympics despite its president expressing concern about the 100th anniversary of the Nazi-era Berlin Games, the nation’s Olympic sports head Thomas Weikert said on Saturday.
The German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB) is due to decide later this year on putting forward a candidate from Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, and the Rhine-Ruhr region for the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Games. The first of the three dates could be contentious, however.
“The president views the year 2036 as historically problematic for a German bid,” a spokesperson for German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Thursday.
But DOSB President Weikert told reporters at the German House at the Winter Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo that all dates remained open.

“Despite”? We’re all still so traumatized by WWII they they shouldn’t host the games on the centenary of last time? We beat the militarism out of them. They’ve done everything they can to comply with the current leftist nostrums by deindustrializing their economy, allowing foreigners who hate them to overrun them and rape their daughters, and giving up faith. The same kind of people who got all hot and bothered about Trump holding a rally at Madison Square Garden, because they make the fallacious jump that the America First movement leading up to WWII was in bed with the Nazi Party, so that since MAGA and Trump are modern day Nazis, Trump was holding a Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden.
That is their assertion.
The Nazis deserved all condemnation directed at them in 1941. But Germany in 2036 isn’t the same country that Germany was in 1936. They aren’t the same people. Anyone alive then is not likely to be involved in any way in the 1936 Germany Olympic effort.

It was Nazi propaganda minister Josef Goebbels who reintroduced the lighting of the torch at the 1936 games in Berlin.
At least Avery Brundage isn’t around this time to kick Jewish athletes off the US team.
The games were awarded to Berlin even before the Nazis took power.
