I'm picking up a cordless grinder at Harbor, the bauer is $39.99, Hercules is $79.99 twice as much. I'm leaning towards the Hercules. Have you all had any luck with the cheaper Bauer stuff?

I thought- Jack Bauer or Hercules the god. That’s too close to call
That’s funny, I was thinking of Bauer TrueImage, which along with TrueType, was used to counter Adobe Postscript and Adobe Type Manager, and the famous Hercules monochrome video card standard.
When I went cordless I got Ryobi, as their 18V batteries fit over 300 of their tools.
My guess on your question is how much are you going to use this tool?
Get Bauer at half the price and if it’s good you saved money but if it’s not to your liking at some later date then spring for the more expensive Hercules.
Get the cheaper one and use the savings for an extra battery. They are all made in the same Chinese factory.
While I don’t depend on my tools for a living, I do depend on them to work when I need them to. We switched to all Bauer brand battery operated hand tools in my family garage for the cars that we own and for some gardening tools as well. I’m very happy with them.
Bauer is fine for home use. There are adapters available to use Hercules batteries in Bauer tools. Get the adapter and use Hercules batteries in Bauer tools, and then if you decide to switch to Hercules later, your batteries and chargers are already transitioned.
If you need the tool for a lot of work and often, go with the quality tool. If just occasional work, buy the cheap one.
I have a lot of tools I bought from Harbor Freight. They work and I use them only occasionally. If I needed those tools to make a living I would not buy them. I would go for quality tools.
I have a Bauer cordless screwdriver that works well, has enough torque to drive most anything and charges quickly. But I just use it around the house - not for hard use. If it’s for occasional use, stick to the cheaper model. For everyday use, get a good name brand.
I’m running a 3/8 drive impact, 1/2drive drill, and a leaf blower. All 20volt cordless. I can’t complain I bought batteries with all 3 and rarely use all of them at once. I got no complaints. I skipped the warranty BS. I don’t make a living with them.
Sorry all mine are Bauer.
“Get Bauer at half the price and if it’s good you saved money but if it’s not to your liking at some later date then spring for the more expensive Hercules.”
Seconded.
I went Ryobi a long time ago and have no regrets. Over 300 tools and devices to choose from. Every Ryobi tool I’ve ever bought is still working and so is every battery. I have a Home Depot two minutes down the road from me so it’s a no-brainer for me and they have sales every few months so I can always get a great deal.
A huuuuge percentage of the world thought the very same thing!
In Jack Bauer 24 season 6, 7 or 8 there is an hilarious scene where Jack is purchasing 4-6 burner cell phones. As he is finishing the purchase, the store clerk asks about the cell phone charger. His answer is great: "Don't need it!"
Jack's cell phone never runs out of power!
Other Jacks that might take on Hercules?
Jack Ryan, Jack Harkness, Jack Reacher, Jack O'Neill. Jack & The Bean Stalk?
Jack Travin.
I bought a Hercules bench grinder, variable speed, it lasted about 2 years but I didn’t get the extended warranty, so I junked it and bought a Bauer. Same size motor, but no variable speed for a good bit less. The Bauer is motoring along just fine and I discovered I didn’t really ever use the variable speed anyway.
Personally I would avoid both. There are better brands.
