VMI’s loyalists should not confuse a proposed legislative “study”—a proposed task force, in this instance—for being anything other than hostile to the school itself. The Democrats are coming. They yearn to lash out and there it sits—VMI—on the open plateau of Virginia’s culture wars, an optimal target of opportunity.
To put it another way, you’re as likely to get a sympathetic, balanced, sensible response out of the current General Assembly on the subject of this long‑venerated, state‑owned school—VMI—as you would out of the Trump administration on the subject of immigration.

The 2025 Virginia elections have ushered in a new Democrat governor and a large majority in the legislature. Consequently, VMI is now under the gun, and the Dems appear to be suffering from VMIDS (VMI Derangement Syndrome).

No; if the poster is too lazy to tell you about the subject, or the State/country the story takes place in, uses acronyms without explanation, just ignore it.
They want to make it just like every other public college in VA.
These idiots cannot see beyond their liberal nose. Sure, VMI (or any of the other Major Military universities) is not for everyone. But it’s there for a reason. And the results are usually better than their peers.
This just makes the private military universities that much more important.
Democrats slipping back into the hatred of the Military. And VMIs full support of the Confederacy makes them a prime target for the Red Guard Democrat Party.
Elections have consequences. It would be nice if they also had consequences when Republicans win.
They can even keep the name. WV used to be a part of VA before the Civil War.

I like it WVMI. And go back to being all male.
FNC had two cadets on yesterday. One Black, one White. Both spoke exactly the same about VMI. They said they are there for the politics. Both are pissed off at the troublemaking scumbags starting this kind of crap.
By the time the Democrats are done with VMI proof of sex with goats and/or children will be required for admission and hiring.
It would be nice if some Free Republic fellow could relate actual experience with Virginia Military Institute so it’s not confused for liberal institutions.
Might be easier at this point to create a new institution. And make it private.

VMI established in 1839. Stonewall Jackson was an artillery instructor at the Institute, and Jackson’s Brigade rallied the Confederate troops to a surprise rout of Federal forces at the First Battle of Manassas. Jackson’s men held the line like a stonewall, inspiring the other troops and earning him the name Stonewall Jackson. He became one of Robert E. Lee’s top generals.

I’ve served with graduates from VMI and the Citadel and they were all top-shelf. Better than West Point.
