Bill Murray has sparked backlash against journalist Bob Woodward after confronting him over alleged lies he told about the late John Belushi in his 1984 biography,
Groundhog Day star Murray, 74, clashed with Woodward, 81, at a Washington event Sunday - one day after trashing the writer for his book Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi in a candid chat on the Joe Rogan Experience.
Murray had said of Woodward - who alongside fellow Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein, uncovered President Richard Nixon's Watergate scandal: 'When I read Wired, the book written by what's-his-name, Bob Woodward, about Belushi, I read like five pages and I went, "Oh my God, they framed Nixon."
'I went, "Oh my god, if he writes about my friend that I've known for half of my adult life — talking to the people of the outer, outer circle — what the hell could they have done to Nixon?"'
'If he did this to Belushi, what he did to Nixon is probably soiled for me too.'
The pair's confrontation took place at a screening of documentary Becoming Katharine Graham at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, with the spat posted to X by Washington Post journalist, Ben Terris.
Terris wrote: 'Bill Murray and Bob Woodward had words about Woodward’s Belushi book tonight at the Kennedy Center. It was a little tense.'
The New York Times also noted the pair had a 'quarrel' but did not elaborate on what was actually said.
DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for Bill Murray and Bob Woodward for comment.
Fans took to X to praise Murray for taking on Woodward, writing: 'Way to Bill. Woodward is a Democrat shill.
'Go get him Bill!
'Give him hell, Bill.
'Love it!!! Bill doesn't play around!

Bill Murray said that a couple years ago, I’m pretty sure. Maybe more than a couple years ago.
“Oh my God, they framed Nixon.”
Bill Murray, despite a silly public image and a checkered personal life, is a very intelligent man. I’ve seen multiple interviews in which he’s made incredibly insightful comments on numerous topics, including the Catholic Church, Latin Mass, etc.
Woodward is a fraud, and Bill will see him ruined.... Woodward is F’n toast!!!!

This happened a long time ago. Bill knows that Woodward lied. Woodward is a CIA hack. He is not a journalist. His job is to simply tell a wrong history for future people to misunderstand the past.
This is great. Truth is always good.
Unfortunately it takes a personal knowledge of things for people to understand the depravity and amount of lies and disinformation in the news media. And even then maybe not.
Most people accept news media as gospel due to mistaken belief in authority.
I remember when I was a teen, an adult relative talking about 60 minutes. How he believed their reports, until they did an “exposé” on something he knew and 60 Minutes had lied and distorted all of it. He said he wouldn’t believe anything they said anymore.
Bill Murray has very deep Chicago roots and I’m guessing he is finally seeing the bigger picture and all the cracks.
Also there aren’t that many stupid stand-up comics.

Welcome to the party, Bill. Most of us here knew that in the ‘70s. It’s not like the CNN “journalists” were the first to sabotage the country, and malign good people, with their lies.
Woodward is a very old Mockingbird. One of the first.
Little-known fact - groundhog bites are said to have contributed to Bill Murray’s facial scarring, although this might be a tall tale dreamed up just to test the gullibility of whomever is interviewing him.
Having been bit by a groundhog several times, while it was deep, and it hurt, the bites don’t leave much scarring. Their teeth aren’t designed for ripping like dogs’ teeth. They leave small rectangular puncture wounds. In my case the bites went completely through my hand and deep into my arms, leaving what are now pale, polka dot scars. so I would say the facial issues he has were not from a woodchuck.
The terrier that bit me in another incident, actually sawed through bone, leaving my finger flopping around on a hinge of skin. Dog bites are often messy and leave a lot of irregular scarring.
The cockatoo that got me cut around my thumb like a pipe cutter… all the way through the connective tissue and into the bone. It thought it was falling so the bit wasn’t an angry one, it could have taken the thumb off with ease. That one hurt the longest of all but scarring externally was a fine, neat line.
And that’s all the trivia I have to add, lol.

On Nightline Ted Kopple exposed Woodward for the fraud he is . He asked him to describe former CIA director William Casey’s hospital room. Woodward said that was ‘Classified’. I’ve since learned that Nixon was basically railroaded by the Democrats and their media allies. At least Nixon could make the valid claim that he made genuine phone call to the Moon. What other President can claim that?
While in a Mormon Sunday school class at the youth age of 4 I got my middle finger nearly severed in a folding chair. At that young age if you happen to lose the first digit it actually tries to grow back. Since the finger was sewn back on at the hospital I still have an odd scar of the incident to this very day.
When did Bill Murray read that book? Was it 40 years ago or was it more like 4 years ago? If he read it before 1994, Nixon was still alive.
