Trump tells Post that US troops won’t be in Venezuela if Maduro VP ‘does what we want’: ‘We have a second wave’

President Trump told The Post in an exclusive interview that US troops won’t be stationed in Venezuela so long as ousted strongman Nicolás Maduro’s vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, “does what we want” in the aftermath of a daring US raid that captured Maduro.

Trump made the clarification moments after a press conference where he said that “we are going to run the country” ahead of a democratic transition, introducing the prospect of a US occupation.

Asked by The Post if “US troops [will] be on the ground helping run the country,” Trump said: “No, if Maduro’s vice president — if the vice president does what we want, we won’t have to do that.”

“We’re prepared,” Trump added. “You know, we have a second wave that’s much bigger than the first wave.”

The president said that “we’ve spoken to her [Rodriguez] numerous times, and she understands, she understands.”

Rodriguez has been sworn in as Venezuela’s interim leader, Trump said at his press conference. In a televised address after the attack, Rodriguez called for “the immediate liberation” of Maduro and his wife Celia Flores, saying “President Nicolas Maduro” is the “only president of Venezuela.”

She left the door open to working with the White House, while seeking to calm internal divisions.

“Here, we have a government with clarity, and I repeat and repeat again … we are willing to have respectful relations,” she said, referring to the Trump administration. “It is the only thing we will accept for a type of relationship after having attacked [Venezuela].”

The Trump-ordered mission was conducted around 2 a.m. local time featuring more than 150 military aircraft — knocking out the power in Caracas before special operators captured Maduro and his wife, both of whom will face federal drug-smuggling charges.

Well, so far today all she’s done is go on TV and demand the release of the Maduros so maybe a second wave incoming. 😏

Need to move the lady that actually won the election (with 70% of the vote) into the office. Let the illegitimate VP rot in Russia.

It’s time to annex Greenland.
Denmark cannot defend it.
The US taxpayers are defending it.

My guess is some kind of deal was worked out:

a) give up Maduro with no to little resistance;
b) replace the Chinese oil companies with Americans;
c) throw out the Iranians/Hezbollah, etc.;
d) agree to a process to hold free and fair elections.

In return, the US agrees not to kill them and allows them to walk off with a lot of loot.

Looks like there's some backsliding today. We'll see.

President Trump is trying to outsource regime change. Time will tell if it works.

I think some kind of deal was worked out also. More likely Maduro gave up everything on the 2020 election steal in return for an extraction so his overlords wouldn’t stick a knife in his throat when he tried to flee the country.

Now we can put Maduro on trial in civilian court and let him be a witness to the 2020 election fraud. Otherwise why not just give him a military tribunal?

She was the party leader, but the actual candidate who was cheated out of the presidency is Edmundo Gonzalez. Machado herself was barred from running.

Even if he is put into power he’s gonna need help to get rid of Cartel Del Sol. That is the real issue here; Maduro was using the power of the state to create and run this head cartel that controls all the other cartels. Those people are not going to just go quietly into the night.

I doubt there is a civilian court that will ever give a fair trial on any of this; the cartels have bought everybody they need. And SDNY is turd-world. I’m wondering if the civilian courts will be used to show that the cartels own the very officials who were “randomly assigned” to the case - which would make it totally necessary to have military tribunals and could begin the process of cleaning up the Cartel del Sol damage that’s been done to this country’s government in all branches and at all levels.

Maduro’s narco-terrorism plot against America unraveled by Venezuelan defectors
Washington Examiner ^ | 12/22/25 | Mike Gonzalez

….
The letter by (convicted) Alcala Cordones, dated Dec. 8 and revealed by Venezuelan investigative journalist Maibort Petit, confirms most of the information contained in Carvajal’s own missive.
Alcala Cordones is the highest Venezuelan military leader behind bars in the U.S. He is serving a 21-year sentence after admitting to being a member of the Cartel of the Suns and collaborating with the FARC to smuggle weapons, including grenade launchers, and cocaine into the U.S.
He fingers Maduro as the man in charge of international relations, especially with Iran and its Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, and Cabello as the leader who maintains armed protection for the smuggling networks, but he says that the Cartel of the Suns is run by Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and her brother, Jorge Rodriguez. The letter details the evolution of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua into a transnational organization with operatives in U.S. streets and the role of Cuban intelligence.
The “current supreme core of Venezuelan power,” Maduro, Cabello and the Rodriguezes, according to the letter, has ties with U.S. congressmen who were left unnamed. It closes with this warning: “The regime run by Maduro and Cabello represents a threat to the national security of the United States.”….. snip

And that’s actually what was done in the US too. Barack Obama - an ineligible usurper who had to have his documentation altered and covered up by John Brennan, James Clapper, and many corrupt local govt agencies - was installed so the camel’s nose would be inside the tent and from there Obama could weaponize all the powers of the government against the US Constitution and the voters of the USA. Those people will also not go quietly into the night. That’s why we don’t have a Dept of Defense any more; we have a Dept of War. We’ve already lost the defense; the enemy is in the building and has in fact taken over the building. We are past the point of defense and are at the point of having to militarily fight to get the country back. The same point at which Venezuela is. And a lot of other countries too; the Venezuela/Cuba/China/Russia/Iran/Serbia cabal has been controlling elections and bribing officials in 72 “free” countries in the world. We are all at the same point. We’ve lost the defense and now have to actually win back DOMINION over our own countries. The “voter system” through which the Venezuela et al cabal gained dominion over the voters of our country was actually very clear when it named itself. It was always there in plain sight.

Do you have a link to that?

I’m eager to see which US congressmen we should expect to see hang after a trial at Gitmo...

You could be right. Maduro knows who all the bad actors are. I think its likely he testifies and names names. I will not be surprised if that happens.
