In July, President Donald Trump signed into law new legislation that will overhaul the federal student loan system. Among the changes brought by the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act are the elimination of loans that allowed graduate students to borrow up to the cost of attendance and differing caps on student loans for those pursuing graduate versus professional degree programs — a classification that the Department of Education has proposed to include graduate studies in 11 fields, including medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry. Notably missing from that list, however, are myriad allied health professions like physical and occupational therapy, audiology, speech and language pathology, and licensed social work.
If finalized, come next summer, students in these fields will be limited in how much they can borrow from the federal government for their education to $20,500 annually, with a lifetime cap of $100,000 — compared to $50,000 and $200,000, respectively, had their programs fallen under the definition of professional by this administration.

And "licensed social work" is the softest of "sciences." No loans should be granted for this giveaway degree.
Here is what should outrage us all. Universities have been increasing tuition by double digits for decades, in part because they are subsidized by federal student loans. The increased tuition has gone to hire DEI staff and other staff who have turned colleges into Soviet-style authoritarian states. And its paid for, in part, by the vast number of citizens who don’t go to college and who are footing the bill for college students to take out loans that are way beyond their ability to repay. So allowing a 20 year-old to take a $200,000 loan is based on a model of repeated loan forgiveness programs.
Government should get out of the loan business altogether.
We should be out of the fed student loan biz completely.
Hard to complain about this small constraint.
Amen.
"Uzma Rentia" is from the United States, specifically the Northern Virginia area. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) in Alexandria, Virginia, where she was a senior and Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper (tjTODAY). This high school is a prestigious public magnet school in Fairfax County, Virginia.
She currently lives and studies in the Washington DC-Baltimore area, as a medical student at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. (per her LinkedIn and various author biographies from 2024–2025).
Her first name "Uzma" is of Arabic origin (common in Muslim communities, meaning "greatest" or "supreme"), and the surname "Rentia" is uncommon, but no sources indicate she was born outside the U.S. or has origins elsewhere.
So, an Arabic origin woman, probably moslem, might be born n the USA, a medical student...and it's nothing but gimme, gimme, gimme.
Most student loans end up being massive wealth transfers when they are defaulted or forgiven.
I could maybe be talked into adding physical therapy and audiology to the list with higher loans available because I think it's hard to get a job in these fields without a doctorate degree.
But social work? No. It's mostly useless and the pay is poor. My brother-in-law used his social work degree to try and help people. He said it was useless. He'd help them over one hurdle and 90-95% would be back within a few weeks wanting more.
We have a winner!!
There used to be only private loans, the there were federally guaranteed loans, and now lending directly by the federal government.
The truth is that there are a lot of leftists, and probably some others with their heads up their sphincters, who believe that college should be entirely free. That's the mindset behind this creeping abandoned of individual responsibility.
If you want to go to school for free, then study your butt off in high school so that you can earn a scholarship.

“Uzma is a junior at George Washington University studying Public Health and Bioinformatics. In the future she hopes to reduce disparities in health using evidence-based policies and interventions. She enjoys translational and computational research and advocacy.”
Okaaaaaaay...
Even without that, they are not justified.
The first question should always be, “What useful, sustainable, ‘product’ will you bring to the industry (market)?”
Then, “Will this outcome be dependent on outside subsidies to remain viable?”
Universities should co-sign all student loans.
They need skin in the game.
See also, Webster’s Dictionary under “useless eater”.
If you need/want a loan, go to the bank! The US Govt shouldn’t be in the college loan business.
Not Outraged at all, got any other complaints?
No, no, that doesn’t compare to gender studies.
If you live at home and go to your local state University you should not have to borrow any money. Or at least very little.
In Georgia we have the Hope Scholarship funded by the Georgia lotto. As long as you maintain a B average in high school your tuition to Georgia state universities is free.
The student loan scam obviously is another fraudulence designed to finance rat political efforts.
If one delves deeper into this rule, it is designed for “professional” degrees that would effectively allow the graduate to “open a practice.”
Nurses, physical therapists, and other mid level licensed people are not opening individual practices.
It has zero to do with what the government considers “worthy.” It is purely economical.
But you cannot expect the average bear to understand that. Because “everyone win healthcare are the hardest working people since teachers!” (This last sentence is sarcasm.)
