'Tis the season for Senator Rand Paul to air his Festivus grievances about government waste! It's out, and it's spectacular!

We're proud that--for the 7th year straight--the report features wasteful animal tests exposed by WCW, including:

🐶 $5.2M to inject beagles with cocaine and meth (NIH)

🐕 $13.8M for Dr. Fauci’s ongoing maximum pain tick bite experiments on beagles (NIH)

🦆☣️ $1M for a dangerous USDA-CCP bird flu gain-of-function collaboration (USDA)

🦭🐬 $77M for the Navy’s outdated Marine Mammal Program (DOD)

🐁🤰$2.8M to implant bone, liver, and thymus tissue from aborted human fetuses into lab animals to create “BLT mice” (DOD)

🦠 $54M doled out by USAID to the disgraced and debarred EcoHealth Alliance

🐒🎮 $14M+ to force monkeys to play a "Plinko” game knockoff (NIH, NSF, DOD)

🍸🐀 $1M wasted to create binge drinking ferrets (VA)

Maybe if Rand Paul ever decides to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem, I’ll find his comments worth reading.

I bet if you add all of Rand’s waster together it’s still much less than the Minn. Medicare fraud.

I knew one 35 or more years ago. His name was Phineus. He grew up in a frat house. For breakfast he at a lot of pizza bones and drank a lot of stale beer. He would climb into the the cabinet of the old console TVs, relieve himself, and fall asleep near the warmth of the electronics.

HOLEEEE WOW! That whole place stunk! Even bugs didnt seem to want to have anything to do with cooked ferret droppings.

More Rand Paul bitching while giving another “look at me and my principled stand” gimmick.

It’s just Payola. I’ll bet hardly one of those experiments was actually done. Most were just minimally carried out with the “researchers” pocketing 99% of the cash

"...I bet if you add all of Rand’s waster together it’s still much less than the Minn. Medicare fraud..."

Yes. Not even close. I don't mind any politician pointing these things out. (These are individually a few millions each, with a couple that are in the tens of millions)

But if this is ALL you do, blather hot air about it, then you are absolutely worthless. And Rand Paul is absolutely worthless.

This kind of thing does have large implications, though. I read once about Lake Baikal in the former Soviet Union, and how it went from being one of the largest, oldest, and deepest inland lakes in the world (It is nearly a mile deep, and held more fresh water than all the North American Great Lakes combined) to nearly completely dried up, as the picture below illustrates:

Beginning in the Sixties, the USSR began using it for irrigation, and coupled with pollution, caused it to shrink and dry up. One of the biggest issues was that so much of the irrigation was wasted (leaking irrigation) to water simply being stolen on its way to its destination. This is nothing new to anyone who has ever examined any issue dealing with irrigation. Water on its way to its destination is simply siphoned off by people who want the water, so that by the time it gets to where it should be, there isn't that much left in the pipe to be got.

Or money expenditures by large, public, bureaucratic institutions.

Our main problem is pretty obviously large welfare-state and defense related expenditures.

But I'll wager that tens or hundreds of thousands of small money expenditures such as grants for injecting beagles with cocaine and meth, pain tick bite experiments on beagles, USDA-CCP bird flu gain-of-function collaboration, the Navy’s outdated Marine Mammal Program, forcing monkeys to play a "Plinko” game knockoff, or the creation of binge drinking ferrets end up siphoning off so much money that we would be astonished.

And since this is Rand Paul, only the silliest or most ominous sounding ones are included. There are likely tens or hundreds of thousands of these types of grants ranging from subsidizing square dance parties to help senior citizens with balance issues to the study of finger injuries sustained by people playing air hockey that didn't get on Rand Paul's "list" but add up to tens of billions of dollars of wasted money.

They don't attract any attention because they are thought to be so small individually as to be non-impactful on any budgetary analysis. But like the Chinese method of "Lingchi" (death by a thousand cuts) collectively, they are a huge drag on our budgets.

We need to begin passing real budgets again, and we need to crack down on this "Lingchi" of a thousand financial cuts which is invisibly draining our resources.

That’s the Aral Sea, not Lake Baikal.

The hazards of looking up something online, you search for one thing, another thing returns, and then...you make the mistake of simply assuming it presented you with what you search for.

In this case, doubly bad, as I doubly transposed both cause and effect.

Oh well. I will have to take my lumps and hopefully live and learn.
