November NICS Reveal Significant Drops in Sales and Background Checks

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System numbers decreased significantly for November 2025 compared to November 2024. An increase in firearm sales is normal for November. It happened in 2025, but firearm sales are 7% lower than those in November 2024. About 1.41 million firearm sales occurred in November of 2025, as estimated by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. 1.51 million firearms were estimated to be sold in November last year. The number of background checks for November was much lower than expected, about 2.09 million. It is the lowest number of background checks in November since 2014, more than a decade ago. From NSSF:

The November 2025 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 1,408,230 is a decrease of 7.0 percent compared to the November 2024 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1,514,773. For comparison, the unadjusted November 2025 FBI NICS figure of 2,005,667 reflects a 20.1 percent decrease from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 2,509,368 in November 2024.

The estimate of firearms sales is following a similar pattern to what happened in President Trump’s first term. Firearm sales increased in the year of the presidential election. They dropped as President Trump’s policies started to produce greater domestic and international stability. The same effect seems to be happening in his second term.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

The more social order and global peace, the lower the demand for firearms in the United States.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t have any place left to put them.

I’ve gotten tired of tragic boating accidents.

I think after the last 5 years we’ve achieved market saturation.

Maybe. There are about half the country which claims not to own a firearm.

Removing the irksome regulations from silencers and short barreled rifles will open up some demand.

According to the law of supply and demand, demand drops are followed by price drops. I guess it might be time to so some looking around.

Kind of like EV’s. Everyone who ‘needs’ one has it. For EV’s it’s for vanity (showing off to friends and family, and other FReepers, in a few cases), for guns, it’s for necessity.

If Democrats likely win the congress next year I’m sure gun and ammo sales will spike again.

Same here. I have about 3 favorite rifles, a favorite shot gun and 5 or so handguns.

The rest are surplus and could be sold, but I won’t. But let’s say I did sell those I never shoot, that would leave me with just 9 guns. And 9 guns is enough for the leftists to red flag me as a dangerous monster and menace to society.

I’m hoping we are good at least until 2028. Regardless I buy a box or two frequently. With gold over $4K, lead is a much better investment IMO.

I have all I need, and then some. At this point it’s just ammo, training, and maintenance.

I was discussing firearms acquisition syndrome with some fellow late boomers and confirmed that I was not the only one selling off surplus shooting irons or slowing down new purchases.

There's nothing like hitting your late sixties, looking at the safe and realizing that you have been storing and maintaining a bunch of freeloaders. Guns who haven't pulled their weight since your old hunting permissions ended- because so-and-so's kid now caters to rich urbanites with $1800 bows and $2000 getups, the local farmland baron bought up the old RR right of way and bulldozed it all back into cropland, and pretentious McMansions have desecrated the timber along the creek.

A Trustworthy President and Administration helps, as well.

I might have room for one more.

But after that I am going to have to start stacking them on the lawn.

Which would mean I would need to buy at least four more as a stack does not really work with fewer then three.

Dear Santa,
I have been ever so good this year....
