The plight of Afghan allies desperately trying to flee the Taliban is exposing divisions among Republicans, with some pressing the Biden administration to help resettle those people who helped the U.S. military and others stoking nativist fears about an influx of refugees.
The rift comes as Republicans have tried to remain unified in their criticism of President Biden’s handling of the messy U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The GOP divide is taking place at both the state and national level.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) was one of the first GOP governors to say his state is “ready and willing” to receive more refugees after Maryland is already posted to receive at least 180 Afghan citizens under the program that allows special visas to those who helped the U.S.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also expressed support for accepting Afghans who assisted the American military.
“We owe it to these people who are our friends

Thank you very much and God bless you,
Jim

I know a solid guy who worked under Hogan at a very high level.
It ended with said guy very much not impressed with Hogan.
Like really old news: 08/19/21. He’s no longr gvernor of Md. either.
Should have taken them to a muslim country but Politicians had/have no common sense
No sign of Hogan-a-Mania running all over.
“Afghan allies” should be used in the dictionary of an example of “oxymoron.”
“… people who helped the U.S. military…”
They were actually helping the Americans who were trying to help the translators’ own country, Afghanistan. It’s like a homeowner assisting the firemen trying to save his house and then claiming the Fire Department owes him something for the effort.
Also, they were paid for their work.
Hard no to bringing them here.
Afganies are just a slightly different species. Still not much removed from other persons of color who are still primitive savages just in slightly advanced or retarded evolution. They are all third world primitives.

He’s heartbroken.
Isn’t that enough?
C’mon man!
Duh. It’s “old news” but more relevant than ever.
Maybe we rehome them within another friendly country instead of always here.
Fake news.
Though I’m curious WHY these “visas to save our Afghan friends from the taliban” were... TEMPORARY?!
I’d sure rather have him than the one we have now.
“ Should have taken them to a muslim country but Politicians had/have no common sense”
You haven’t been to Dallas lately
How many times a week does the [s]Hill run a story about the GOP ready to split in two? These clowns keep recycling the same old crap.
There’s more: we trying to confirm if the suspect, an Afghan national was an interpreter brought over by Biden, because he has a Department of Defense record. Again, we are trying to confirm.

Say what? One of McConnell and Hogan’s buddies?
given the recent tsunami of fake stream media articles about GOP/MAGA “riff”s, there’s no doubt that the word went out from the DNC that they should publish that anything and everything is causing a “riff” ...
Round up every single one in this country and ship them to the ME. They don’t have to go back to Afghanistan but they can’t stay here. Same for the Somalis. They don’t have to go back to Somalia, but they can’t stay here.
