David Lammy to SCRAP juries for trials except rape and killers in effort to ease courts backlog (UK)

A confidential memorandum from Justice Secretary David Lammy has exposed the Government's intention to eliminate jury trials for the majority of criminal cases, restricting them solely to murder, rape, manslaughter and matters of public interest.

The dramatic overhaul of the criminal justice system has been revealed through documents marked "sensitive and official", which outline the most significant changes to trial procedures in decades.

Under the proposed reforms, all remaining criminal offences would be determined by judges sitting without juries, fundamentally altering how crime and punishment is administered in England and Wales.

The radical restructuring represents Labour's response to the overwhelming backlog plaguing Crown Courts, where nearly 77,000 cases await resolution.

The Government's approach significantly surpasses the proposals submitted by Sir Brian Leveson in his comprehensive review of criminal courts published in July.

Sir Brian had advocated for establishing an "intermediate" court structure featuring a judge accompanied by two magistrates to handle mid-range offences, whilst also suggesting judge-only proceedings for particularly complex matters involving fraud, financial crimes and cybercrime.

How about you lock them in a cage instead of letting them back out to commit more crimes.

This should make it easier to convict English people for “misinformation”.

They won’t have to worry about jury nullification.

If there were ANY suspicion that the trials would go like this:

“M’Lord, Mohammad here is accused of rape.”
“Counselor, Mohammad is obviously guilty. Next case.”

They would NEVER consider getting rid of juries.

They KNOW that it will go like this:

“M’lord, Reginald here is accused of murder.”
“Counselor, Reginald is obviously guilty. Next case.”
“M’Lord, Mohammad here is accused of rape.”
“Counselor, Mohammad is obviously innocent. Next case.”

Why not just have the police determine guilt? That would really speed things up.

I'm sure this method of judicial proclamation will be fair.

Maybe they'll set back up the hangman's noose for this:

Deport all the non-citizens and watch crime drop dramatically.

That way they can let all the violent criminals go and concentrate on those pesky hate-speech spewing conservatives.

The government is presenting the removal of jury trials as a “pragmatic solution” to a court backlog, but the real reason is financial and political. For decades, the UK has poured almost all resources into social programs and welfare, leaving courts and the justice system underfunded. Adding large numbers of migrants on benefits has accelerated the strain. Rather than addressing the root causes — cutting bureaucracy, reforming benefits, or properly funding the courts — the government is quietly stripping citizens of their last safeguard: trial by peers.

Juries are a fundamental check on state power. A judge alone owes loyalty to the state, not the citizen, and promotions, honors, and knighthoods create strong incentives to favor government priorities. Removing juries risks that ordinary citizens, especially those who challenge state policy, will face biased or harsher outcomes, while protected groups receive preferential treatment.

This isn’t just about speed; it’s about fairness, liberty, and the integrity of justice. Cutting jury trials undermines the system and puts every citizen at risk of an unfair trial.

They’ll soon be outsourcing all trials for the members of the Religion of Peace to sharia courts.
