Rethinking How We Misthink the Holocaust

When Holocaust scholars accuse Jews of becoming Nazis, moral clarity collapses into performance guilt.

Every few months, another academic or journalist decides that the best way to honor Holocaust memory is to accuse Israel of repeating it. The latest comes from The New York Times, where Professor Marianne Hirsch, interviewed by Masha Gessen, claims we need to “rethink how we think about the Holocaust.”

It’s a long conversation—ostensibly about pedagogy and post-memory—but it eventually lands in the same familiar place: Holocaust memory, they say, has been “misused” to justify Israeli actions in Gaza, while Israel itself now stands accused of committing “genocide.” Gaza, in their telling, is the new Warsaw Ghetto.

That’s not scholarship. That’s moral inversion with tenure.

Hirsch and Gessen actively refuse to draw the simplest, most obvious analogy—the one between Hamas and the Nazis.

I am more concerned about the same mind set they had prior to the holocaust. Most completely disbelieved the signs happening around them and stayed, even believing nothing could happen to them in their home countries.

Around the world, so many Jews are repeating that and welcoming in even voting for their enemies disbelieving history will repeat.

It would seem many, if not most, have learned nothing.

Eisenhower made the citizens of the cities near the death camps in Germany tour the camps for this very reason.

Especially since the Hamas charter doesn’t merely call for the destruction of Israel (which is home to half of the world’s Jews), but calls for ALL Jews to be eliminated. If that isn’t a genocidal ideology like that of the Nazis, then nothing is.

Hirsch and Gessen are self-hating Jews, as well as monumental morons.

I knew a WWII vet who helped “liberate” on of those camps during the war. With tears in his eyes, he said that “if anyone ever tells you it didn’t happen, call them a liar and tell them to come see me.” He would have likely kicked their ass. He was a tough old man.

My aunt Gertrude was a Holocaust survivor. She and her sister were the only members of the family who survived.
