CNN data analyst Harry Enten is offering a rough outlook for Democrats as the midterm season approaches. Recent polling, he says, shows Republicans holding a surprisingly steady edge on the issues voters rank highest, leaving Democrats in a vulnerable position.
According to surveys from The Washington Post and Ipsos, Republicans lead Democrats by seven points on the economy, thirteen points on immigration, and twenty-two points on crime. Those gaps are wider than they were in 2022, suggesting the GOP has gained ground on the topics that most often sway elections.
Here’s the breathless Enten explaining it in his signature style:
“Democrats have not picked up the ball and are not running with it,” Enten said during a recent CNN segment. He argued that Republicans are capitalizing on voter concerns while Democrats have yet to mount a clear, convincing message.
The problem is a familiar one for the party in power. Midterms often turn into a referendum on how the country is doing. Voter frustration over crime, immigration, and everyday costs can quickly erode support for incumbents.
Enten pointed out that there is still time. With more than a year until ballots are cast, public opinion could shift. But unless Democrats start showing progress or persuading voters that they are addressing these top concerns, Republicans are in a position to set the terms of the debate.
For now, the numbers suggest Democrats are heading into the midterms on defense.

And 99 points on not murdering your political opponents and not rejoicing in it.
He’s young and he’s there right in front of an anchor(tete) who doesn’t like it.
Fox needs to quit referring to this guy even if he’s the most accurate. Sh why hasn’t he been fired?
Not sure this poll was taken:
Reuters poll on which political party Americans think has a better plan to deal with the following issues:
Crime: Republicans +20
Immigration: R +18
Foreign conflict: R +12
Economy: R +10
Corruption: R+6
Gun control: R+4
Political extremism: R+4
Democrats are in big trouble.
I think that 2026 will be a year of constant lawfare against the Democrats, as Trump’s team relentlessly, for about 11 months, tells the public just how corrupt the Democrats have been for years. All kinds of crimes, by Big Names. By November 2026, I think the Democrats will be very dead.
We may need a new Attorney General by then because I do not see Pam Bondi doing her job. Maybe she’s incompetent or someone is blackmailing her.
Gavin’s going after the ‘we love illegals overwhelming our state’ vote... might be worth watching. /s
I want to see the jackass party hung upside down by its rear hooves and bled out into a pit like a steer at harvest.
No DemonRat elected to ANY office, ever again!
Hope the lawyers are still available in these races and retained by the GOP, because there will still be rampant cheating.
Democrats overperformed by 21 points in the Arizona special House election yesterday, electing Arizona’s own AOC.
SO I wouldn’t count any chickens yet.
Huh?
>> SO I wouldn’t count any chickens yet.
I’m not counting any chickens at all. There is a LOT of work for us to do. The first step is for conservative Christian America to get off its butt and PARTICIPATE in our government!
Exactly.
And I am not sure Winsome Sears can win in VA this fall. I hope so but I do not know. Spanberger is still ahead in the polls. So that could flip a governorship from red to blue. Dumblecrats will crow about that loudly and try to build on it for 2026.
While I believe the polls, I am not so wide eyed as to think the dumblecrats are anywhere near done.
Despite Spanberger’s best efforts to lose this race I see no chance of Sears winning. 2021 was a fluke for VA. A good one, but a fluke. Much like Trump saved us from Hillary in 16 Youngkin saved VA from McAuliff 2.0. Best we could have hoped for I suppose.
The liberal DEM just won a special election in AZ for Congress to replace her father. We don’t see Republican victories in special elections any more.
It could be that she is like what Lincoln said of McClellan: she has the “slows.”
The Phy-Ops is starting early with CNN and others. Trying to get the Repubs all overconfident and not show up at the polls.
Don’t worry, the Repubs will somehow snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in 2026 ... as they usually do.
