Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has once again raised eyebrows by publicly questioning President Trump’s latest show of military force, this time over a Venezuelan drug vessel blown to pieces in the Caribbean.
The Gateway Pundit reported in August that Trump ‘secretly’ signed a directive ordering the Pentagon to start using military force against certain Latin American drug cartels.
The order provides an official basis for the possibility of direct military operations at sea and on foreign soil against cartels. This means that US troops could find themselves in countries like Mexico battling the Sinaloa Cartel, for example.
As TGP readers know, Trump has long floated the possibility of sending the most powerful fighting force on the planet right into the home turf of the foreign drug lords. The president also previously offered to send troops to Mexico to fight the notorious cartels.

He is an idiot just like his old man. They both think we can just stay within our borders and ignore the outside world.
Why he’s really dumb. They were on their way to the homeland. When they touch land the judges all say you can’t deport them. Maybe if you fix the stupid laws this wouldn’t have been necessary.

I heard his reasoning on an interview and he is wrong. He said that the US needs to declare war to strike in open waters, but he must have forgotten that Jefferson attacked the Barbary Coast Pirates without any Congressional approval. This was the standard, but some folks forget that and think that the Judges run this country. They do not.

I’ve been critical since the outset that our SSNs aren’t tasked with regular exercises off of both coasts to detect/chase/destroy narco subs, parasite sea drones etc.
Personally, I cheer this as an extension of national security, just as I would covert strikes against cartel assets.

This was clearly a message of deterrence and I’ll bet boat drug traffic like this has almost stopped. Did Rand understand what happened at the border and the reduction in illegals? This is same strategy.
