NBC Reporter Roasted After Biden Autopen “Defense” Backfires Spectacularly – WATCH
Daily Fetched ^ | July 16, 2025 | Jason Walsh

NBC News found itself in hot water after broadcasting a story which appeared to divert scrutiny away from former President Joe Biden and his use of the autopen.

However, the effort did the opposite and backfired — highlighting the network’s perceived hypocrisy.

NBC attempted to “expose” Rep. James Comer (R-KY) for allegedly digitally signing letters and subpoenas, although this is a common practice in most offices.

Anchors Ryan Nobles and Melanie Zanona, who delivered the segment, attempted to create a “both sides” narrative concerning the use of the autopen.

Despite the effort, they made themselves targets for backlash from conservatives and even centrist critics.

Conservatives were quick to note that digital signatures are a routine internal measure, arguing that trying to make this particular usage appear scandalous misses the point.

Now, the question conservatives and Republicans in Congress want answered is whether Biden was actually aware of what he was signing.

Biden was reportedly suffering from cognitive impairment during that time, suggesting a chance he was not aware of what his signature was being used for.

NBC took a grilling from MAGA supporters over whether legal authority was properly exercised when Biden autopen-signed thousands of pardons.

The network attempted to create a narrative that focused on “both sides” doing the same thing, which critics argue is merely a distraction.

“Instead of investigating a possible immense political scandal, many in the media pedantically focused on the ‘autopens,’” reads a column in the Washington Examiner.

This only fueled further criticism.

Advocates for governmental transparency argue that the public still lacks clarity on whether Biden personally reviewed the pardons or authorized them.

While the use of the autopen itself doesn’t technically violate any rules or laws, it does raise questions about presidential accountability when thousands of decisions — especially pardons — are signed in bulk.

NBC appeared to admit that legal subpoenas feature wet signatures, drawing a line between technical and ceremonial powers.

Meanwhile, conservatives have made it clear that the concern is why a president in such poor cognitive health used the autopen to issue pardons on a massive scale.

I’m not familiar with how the autopens are set up. Is there a User ID and password required to operate the machine, or is it like a general purpose copier in a large office?

The democrat base is stupid (they’ll believe anything) - and dem’s white liberal ‘elite’ are corrupt (so they’ll go along with anything). And conservatives know the leftwing political class is a bunch of liars. So this story doesn’t matter to anyone.

It’s a simple pantograph setup using a cut out signature template. Use should be logged except for greeting cards and such. Plenty of photos.

My son ran the autopen for one of Trump’s secretaries in his first term and they had three signature variations that included initials. The lawyers of the various departments would research and answer questions from members of Congress and other sources. Since a secretary can’t research & sign every document, the autopen is used and had the weight of the Secretary’s actual signature BUT every response that is made and sent out has the lawyers research behind the response.

I believe all or most of the departments had what they called the Office of the Secretariat which handles this type of info. I’m not aware of the White House having one but couldn’t say for sure either.

Electronic signatures of this nature should require some personally identifiable information or other means to authenticate the e-signer. And, documents of even higher importance should require a wet signature with proof of identity, always.

Things are signed like congratulatory letters for students, birthday cards for people over 90, IIRC, and non-critical stuff like that.

Adding all that up, I could see it totally 1 million.

The things that are the issue is the stuff that may or may not be legally binding - pardons, EO’s, etc.
