They see it as a wedge issue to break apart the R cohesion. They have no desire to actually get it out, they just want to continue stirring the pot.

The Democrats will be thrilled to roast Republicans on this issue—and apparently the Republicans are so stupid they can’t figure it out....

The same reason you sometime see democrats voting for conservative legislation that they know won’t get passed.
