New York’s Jews after Mamdani’s victory
No Delusions, No Despair ^ | 11 July 2025 | Benjamin Kerstein

As the title of this newsletter suggests, I do not care for delusions, and we should have none.

It is all-important, then, to acknowledge the fact that Zohran Mamdani will unquestionably be the next mayor of New York. There are too many votes in cheap populist demagoguery and hating the Jews to stop him.

So, the question now is not how to prevent a Mamdani victory. The question is how the Jews ought to deal with the fact that an open antisemite will soon rule America’s leading—if declining—city with its million-strong Jewish minority.

There would seem to be four options:

Quiescence

Historically, Diaspora Jews’ default option has been to keep quiet, avoid trouble, and hope for the best. This strategy has been somewhat viable in the short term, but it always fails in the long term, with devastating consequences. Despite this, it has been learned over centuries and will likely be the initial reaction to Mamdani’s election.

Indeed, it has already been effectively adopted by America’s decadent and depraved Jewish leadership. These so-called “leaders have said little if anything against Mamdani, for obvious reasons: They are prisoners of their own privilege and their useless loyalties to Democratic Party and progressive politics.

They had options. They chose to support bringing in MILLIONS of Muslims, in order to “offset the Christians”, I must assume.

They asked for it.

Sliwa and Cuomo are distractions. The only candidate who has a chance is Eric Adams. He's OK.
He's a friend of President Trump. Adams is a realist. Sliwa and Cuomo should drop out.

Or to prove they weren’t “Islamophobic.”

He's about the best candidate you can get out of NYC at this moment.

A "Democrat" who's somewhat pragmatic.

Hasn’t the history of NYC Jewish wealth, power, influence, control, and voting been aimed to get to these politics?

When I lived in Manhattan and went to Columbia University, I heard many discussions in the Jewish community as to whether their allegiances should be with whites or non whites. At the time, it sounded like they generally thought their allegiances should be with non whites.

It was, after all, a couple of liberal jews who formed the NAACP early in the 20th century.

I think the first inkling that this might be a good idea came with the assassination of Meyer Kahane in the early 90s in New York.

The white middle class has abandoned the Bronx, Queens, most of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The silicon chip and its derivative technologies have made central business locations largely obsolete futher eroding the economic foundation of New York. New York, outside Staten Island is now the home of elites, mostly childless yuppies, Orthodox Jews, poor blacks and Hispanics within thirty years of arrival. The large secular Jewish population has its strongholds in the upper West Side and a few other places. IMHO most will support Magdani, remain there and accept what comes. They really beleive that they will not be physically attacked and their wealth will remain largely intact.New York will never be what it once was.

“Sliwa and Cuomo should drop out.”

they would if they cared at all about their city ... but they don’t and they won’t because they obviously care only about their own precious egos ... the result will split the anti-zohran vote three ways and zohran will win, giving the voters what they voted for ...

I’m betting a majority of Jews will vote for this guy. Liberal politics come before everything for some people and stupid is...is stupid does. They have a chance with their numbers to possibly stop this catastrophe but they won’t and will get what they vote for. Unfortunately, Jews who have even a modicum of common sense will also get it and I feel genuinely sorry for them.

They really beleive that they will not be physically attacked and their wealth will remain largely intact.

They are deluded fools to not realize they'll be the first ones targeted for eradication.

Nobody cares about their money, influence, previous political positions, etc.

All the anti-Semites see is Jewish heritage. And they're toast.

American Jews vote and fund Democrats. Mamdani is a Democrat. In fact, he is the new face of the Democrat party. As a Muslim leftist, he’s no accident. He is there by design. He’s the inevitable result of voting Obama, a Muslim leftist, into the White House. There is nothing accidental here. American Jews gave us Mamdani. Now for the unintended consequences.

Trump will try to stop the antisemitism. Jews will fight Trump.

The article examines all Jewish coping strategies except coming to their senses.

The Democrat Party is now dominated by its radical wing. They want the destruction of our system of government so it can be replaced with some hybrid of socialism/Marxism and an Islamic state.

For this reason, I don't think Adams has a chance. He is too much of a centrist for the Democrat voters.

Tie him up in court for everything he does, like the Dems do to Trump.

Mamdani would certainly be bad for NYC Jews, and everyone else.

My question: What could Mamdani personally do as mayor to torment the Jews?

I can think of two things: He could reduce police patrols in Jewish neighborhoods. And he order the police to go easy on criminals who attack Jews.

Both are federal civil rights violations, and would trigger a federal response. And given that Trump is president, that response would be vigorous.

Am I missing something here?

NYC Jews will absolutely vote for this guy... probably the majority.
Here in Florida they voted overwhelmingly for Andrew Gillum even after his campaign flooded the black neighborhoods of Tallahassee, Jacksonville and Orlando with antisemitism. Bring that to their attention and they walk away.

YOu say, “Hasn’t the history of NYC Jewish wealth, power, influence, control, and voting been aimed to get to these politics?”
Absolutely! Now the Jews of New York City are going to reap the whirlwind.

All the New Yorkers who don’t want Mamdani will leave the city, leaving only his supporters behind. That’s basically why Sadiq Khan has the London Mayor job as long as he wants it.
