How to Start World War III: Ukraine Joins NATO
National Security Journal ^ | 7/9/2025 | Andrew Latham

Ukraine joining NATO would be viewed by Russia as an existential threat, likely triggering a severe and multifaceted military escalation that could lead to a broader European war. The Kremlin has consistently framed NATO’s eastward expansion as the primary justification for its aggression, meaning Kyiv’s accession would be a direct challenge to Russia’s perceived sphere of influence.

Find and post us one credible link where Zelensky ever conceded that Ukraine would not join NATO

We’ll wait

There are certain things Russian will want in exchange for ending offensive operations in Ukraine.

The certain things [Ukrainian neutrality, no NATO membership for Ukraine, Russia to get its assets back (over time), etc.] can be offered up, or not.

If not, Russian forces will eventually get to Odessa.

“NATO is purely a defensive alliance.”

Not for many years now.

“How exactly does Ukraine joining NATO threaten the existence of Russia?”

Because it borders Russia. And Putin and the Russians are the ones to consider when they think they are being threatened.

Then make a deal for no NATO in exchange for Russia leaving Ukraine.

I could get onboard with that.

Volodymyr Zelensky Says Ukraine Won't Join NATO

Zelensky concedes Ukraine will not join Nato

Zelensky: We won’t join NATO if that brings peace

https://thehill.com/policy/international/3263738-zelensky-on-nato-no-longer-interested-in-their-diplomacy/

What Zelenksy has said about Ukraine's Nato membership and why Russia is so opposed to it

In nod to Russia, Ukraine says no longer insisting on NATO membership

Russia said to ease stance at talks, Zelensky says Ukraine accepts not joining NATO

Is this enough? Will you now acknowledge the point.

Oh balderdash. Russia is not going to go to war with NATO. It would be the equivalent of me poking my 74 year old finger in Mike Tyson’s chest and telling him he walks like a girl. Russia cannot defeat Ukraine let alone the combined might of the USA, France, Britain, Germany, Poland, the Scandinavian countries, and the rest of Europe. We know it and they know it, and no nukes are not a viable solution to limited conventional power. Of course that won’t keep Russia from rattling the nuclear sabre, but that is all for show for their own public.

That was my point. All this talk about Russia attacking Ukraine because of the threat of NATO expansion (something that was not about to happen) is a bunch of hogwash, just cover for Putin’s real goal: the subjugation of Ukraine as a rightful, in his mind, part of Russia. That is why he turned down Zelensky’s offer.

Holy cow, every one of those links is from 2022!
How many trips to NATO conferences has Z made since then?
No way Jose is Russia going to trust that little Piano Man OR NATO to give up on the dream. Z’s own nationalists would take him out if they believed that, sincerely.

So..no sale

Russia has every reason to distrust NATO after what it has done esp from 2008 to present… nor Zelensky who they don’t even see as a legitimate authority

And Russia seems to be running out of reasons to trust Trump

Russia can go screw if they don’t trust Trump.
Some of us forget that Donald Trump is OUR President and yes he is trustworthy.

He warned Putin many times over.

Half a dozen NATO countries already border Russia - Norway, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuwania, and the USA has a maritime border in the Bering Sea so Ukraine as an existential threat is nonsense. A NATO attack if one were ever to come would likely first target St Petersburg which is Russia’s second largest city, former capitol and just a few short miles from NATO territory or even more likely the exclave of Kaliningrad.

No the Ukraine war is about revanchist ambitions and nothing more. Putin wants to regain former imperial and Soviet terriitories lost when the Soviet Union collapsed. His ambitions far exceed his means and are bringing ruin to his country.

Holy cow, every one of those links is from 2022!

That is when the offer was made! Putin has made it clear that this was never about NATO expansion, otherwise he would have accepted the offer. He even rejects the idea of freezing the conflict along the present lines. He is determined to crush Ukraine and bring it back to Russian control. This has been the goal from the beginning. He attacked, not because he was threatened by NATO, but because he was not. He thought that he could achieve the subjugation of Ukraine at little cost.

It’s your post that’s nonsense. How EXACTLY would the U.S., U.K. and France have taken away Ukraine’s nukes? It’s Russia that didn’t want Ukraine to have nukes because they knew they’d eventually want to invade Ukraine and if Ukraine still had nukes Russia couldn’t invade.

I said "WRT Russia, NATO is purely a defensive alliance." So you didn't quote me fully but you cut out the part of my post that said "WRT Russia...". What are you? Left wing media?

There has never been nor will there ever be an NATO offensive action towards Russia.

Yes NATO did intervene as Yugoslavia broke up. Which is NOT RUSSIA. Also some other places. Which were not Russia.

List of NATO Operations

How EXACTLY would the U.S., U.K. and France have taken away Ukraine’s nukes?

They wouldn’t take them away. They’d make sure these weapons stayed in Russian hands by refusing to support Ukrainian independence — even to the point of helping the Russians exert whatever force was needed in Ukraine. Without the support of these western powers, Ukraine would last about 48 hours as an independent nation.

Yes, you did say with regard to Russia, but Russia is the sole reason it was originated, unless you really want to make believe and specify the Soviet Union.

However, I was only quoting Mike Benz. NATO is one of his specialities. Benz says that NATO is operating inside the United States trying to rig elections.
