Trump criticizes Russia being booted from G7
The Hill ^ | June 16, 2024

President Trump began the Group of Seven (G7) summit Monday in Canada by arguing it was a mistake to kick Russia out of the organization more a decade ago.

“The G7 used to be the G8. Barack Obama and a person named [former Canadian Prime Minister Justin] Trudeau didn’t want to have Russia in, and I would say that was a mistake, because I think you wouldn’t have a war right now if you had Russia in,” Trump said during his first meeting of the summit with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Trump has made similar comments in the past. Russia was booted from the group in 2014 for illegally annexing Crimea from Ukraine.

Russia in 2022 launched an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. Trump and his administration have pushed for an end to the war, and while Russian and Ukrainian officials have met for direct talks, there has been little progress toward a ceasefire.

Trump spoke Saturday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, one of several talks the two leaders have held since Trump began his second term. Trump is expected to have a meeting while in Canada with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7. Trump has met Zelensky in person twice, once at the White House during a volatile bilateral meeting and another time at the Vatican.

Trump on Monday also signaled an openness to inviting China to be part of the G7 moving forward.

“I wouldn’t mind that,” Trump said of China’s inclusion. “If someone wants to suggest China.”

Russia isn't in the top 10 GDPs in the world. All G7 nations are. (The top ten countries that AREN'T in are China, India, and Brazil. THEY should be included before Russia.)

Russia was thrown a bone by its inclusion in order to encourage free markets and integration into the West. It didn't merit it on its economic power. Being dumped did not and does not prevent it from improving relations with the rest of the world, but it has does anything but.

In recent days, Putin has strengthened his ties to the Iran terror regime.

If he wants back in, let him earn it. Meanwhile, almost 4 months after Inauguration and he's done nothing to end his invasion of Ukraine.

(Why President Trump would suggest adding China at this point in time when we are engaged in a trade war is beyond me. AFTER we come to terms, that's a different matter.)

He's delusional. Putin's war isn't about money, it's about power. And readmitting him now would just be seen (and rightfully so) as contemptible weakness.

By some measures, Russia has a larger GDP than Germany

When Western Governments measure and report Russian GDP, a country they are at war with, in a sanctioned currency, it becomes an exercise in propaganda and bullish**

You're delusional. The CIA's war is about regime change in Russia so Russia's vast natural resources can be appropriated.

Is Russia in the top 8? If not Trump’s showboating but then commerce makes the world safer.

So NATO bombing of Yugoslavia was bad, Russia’s bombing of Ukraine for more than 3 years good! Потрясающая логика!

Well, as Talleyrand said, "It's worse than a crime: it's a mistake."

Trump v1 was like Reagan, Trump v2 is like Jimmy Carter. If he pressures Israel to let the mullahs live, the analogy will be perfect.

You can choose your opinions, but you cannot choose your facts.

Germany is well over DOUBLE as productive as Russia. It’s not close. That gap didn’t widen when Russia invaded Ukraine or when Russia invaded Crimea: it has been consistent over thirty years.

Russia has the more nuclear weapons than all the pipsqueaks in the G7 combined. The UK leases their ICBMs from Lockheed Martin.

The US has always simply preferred to buy than to conquer because it's much cheaper. And we were free to buy whatever Russia was selling before the Ukraine invasion.

Foreign sales of Russia's raw materials is the principal way Putin and his oligarch friends rob the Russian people blind.

“”””almost 4 months after Inauguration and he’s done nothing to end his invasion of Ukraine.”””

President Trump has worked very hard to end a war he wasn’t involved in starting. Your ire should be pointed at the little Castro wannabe who buys his clothes at the GI Joe doll store.
