Amazon, opens new tab is developing software for humanoid robots that could eventually take the jobs of delivery workers, The Information reported on Wednesday, citing a person familiar with the matter. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.
Amazon is completing construction of a "humanoid park," an indoor obstacle course at one of the company's San Francisco, California offices, where it will soon test such robots, the report added. The company is developing the artificial intelligence software that would power such robots, the report said, adding that Amazon plans to use hardware from other firms in its tests, for now. Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for a comment outside its regular business hours. In a series of announcements on Wednesday, Amazon demonstrated how stockroom robots, delivery people and its sprawling warehouses will all benefit from a hefty dose of AI, speeding packages to customer doorsteps.

I am not sure thats a good thing
Yup—most folks are deep in denial.
The ontological shock is going to be something to behold.
Where is all the power going to come from to run all these gadgets?
The AI situation is similar to nuclear power.
It can be used to provide electricity to power a city or it can be used to destroy that same city.
Interestingly in the 1930s there were a few “crazy” scientists who were warning about how dangerous it could become.
They were called “kooks” and “cranks” and ignored—until World War II started and governments decided to “go for it” anyway...
“Where is all the power going to come from to run all these gadgets?”
AI is going to have to figure out the answer to your question—and it will.
But no matter what happens, God is ultimately in control.
Only time will tell.
Here is what I imagine. I imagine people will be less constrained when confronted with a humanoid robot than they would be with a real human.
Just like social media has made people speak freely to their phone things that they might think twice about before saying face to face. Social media removed the ‘always be polite’ filter. And that has had many negative consequences for many people.
I could easily see myself looking at an annoying robot on my front porch and thinking if he tries to sell me his AMWAY soap one more time, I’m going to just cap him with a sledge hammer.
Self-driving van boots out a couple humanoid robots who deliver packages around a neighborhood. Sorry Brown.
So will the humanoid robots deliver my package to the wrong porch?
My delivery bot will be named Tyreshia. It will be wearing a blonde wig and come with a serious attitude problem.
If the robots seek out porch pirates and terminate them, I’m all for it!
LoL, ok, that would be awesome and fun to watch on the door cam!
You spoke my exact thoughts, there.
We already deal with those silly “cleaning robots” on grocery store floors.
It was an interesting novelty at first—now people just ignore them and walk around them.
Humans are amazingly adaptable and most will not have emotional reactions to robots at all—the robots will just be part of the background noise/scenery of life.
A funny bug would be that the WiFi signal from a Ring camera interferes with the bot communications and it goes into a loop constantly ringing the doorbell.
You could also have a “receiving bot” to accept packages and guard them from porch pirates. We already have remote controlled machine guns.
Yes. It will have *Real People Personality*(TM).
Marvin would hate it, just like everything else in the universe.
