The mullahcracy has been known to be corrupt. Its renewed war on Israel through its terror proxies has resulted in total defeat of Hezbollah and Hamas is just days or weeks from annihilation, with the Houthi having just lost their big port.

The Iranian ally/puppet regime in Syria was rapidly overthrown as a secondary consequence of the other defeats, and all of these show the regime is losing both power and whatever prestige or ability to intimidate that it may have once had.

It could be the IRGC is acting to replace the leadership, which would be a violation of the current and alleged constitution of Iran.

As it uses foreign muscle (largely "Palestinians" and other Arab detritus) to keep on the lid, the IRGC's probably not going to survive in its current form, and is acting in its own interests.

They also must be aware that the hammer is coming down, soon, because of the Khamenei intransigence regarding the nuclear weapons program, which the IRGC knows neither the US nor Israel will tolerate.
