VIDEO: The Spanish Legion Could be the Quirkiest of All Military Units

VIDEO

The Spanish Legion was modeled after the French Foreign Legion yet it has several significant differences. Although the enlisted ranks of the French Foreign Legion are composed entirely of non-French citizens, the members of the Spanish Legion are almost entirely Spaniards. Another difference is that the Spanish Legion march is much faster than the French Foreign Legion march. In fact, as you can see, the Spanish Legion marches so rapidly that you can be forgiven if you think the video of their march is being played at fast speed although I assure you that it's not. The Spanish Legion uniform shirts are wide open at the collar to reveal bare chests. Finally, this video finishes up with the Spanish Legion marching and singing to the tune of "El Novio de la Muerte" ("The Bridegroom of Death"). Whatever you think of it, one must admit that it is a unique ceremony not to be found in any other army in the world.

I’ve always found Latin machismo disgusting.

Let the boys impress each other.

Military blouses must all be missing the top buttons.

Before the modern feminist movement American men strove to be masculine, while Latin men were known as “Macho”, which was seen as a negative to the calm, cool, and collected American type male with the stoic, thinking warrior’s control of his fear and emotions, while the macho types let their emotions influence them, which in the Northern European, British, American, assessment made them lesser warriors.

Around 1970 the left and media started using the derogatory “macho” word to describe male behavior in America, knowing it was negative.

"....I may be mistaken but I thought I saw at least one female Leionnaire marching with the hombres....are my eyes giving me false information....??"

One of the drummers, for sure. Couldn't pick out any others.

Have you read Simon Murrays book about his stint in the FFL back in the 60’s. Good read about the Legion back in the days when men were men.

The French slower rate of march facilitates quick reversal of direction.
