Mass layoffs and a sweeping restructuring at the Department of Health and Human Services could disrupt programs that deliver support for Holocaust survivors and kosher meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities.
..... Snip.....
Jewish social services agencies throughout the country deliver kosher offerings to peoples’ homes as part of the Meal on Wheels program. Holocaust survivors also receive other assistance from the ACL through a special program administered by the Jewish Federations of North America.
An estimated 40,000 Holocaust survivors live in the United States today
JFNA, which has been fielding calls and emails about the federal cuts from concerned Jewish organizations, says it is advocating with the government to protect services.

COULD is key. Will it? No. “But it could!! It COULD!!!”
The resulting HUGE economic benefits will benefit aid for Holocaust survivors and kosher Meal on Wheels deliveries MUCH MORE than unconstitutional big gov’t costs coupled with “aid”.
Asaf Elia-Shalev of JTA has his HUHA.
“COULD” is a very loaded term.
Do those meals on wheels roll on Shabbos?
No one is asking the more obvious question, which is why it is the government’s duty to take care of Holocaust survivors.
De Tocqueville: “A government could take the place of some of the greatest American associations, and within the Union several particular states already have attempted it. But what political power would ever be in a state to suffice for the innumerable multitude of small undertakings that American citizens execute every day with the aid of an association?”
It’s time for the government to stop taking the place of voluntary associations. I want Holocaust survivors to be taken care of, and I would much rather give my money to people who take care of them, than to the government who takes its cut, then hands the rest to collaborators who take their cut, then hands the rest to political organizations who take their cut, then hands the rest to organizations that supposedly take care of Holocaust survivors but only exist to fatten the wallets of all the previous cut-takers.
Americans pay for this?
Budget cuts will close the baby milk factory
Meals on Wheels is a good program. My elderly aunt used it for lunch, and for the chance to interact with another person. But just because something is good doesn’t mean the government should pay for it.
The government should only fund necessary programs. Everything else has to stand on its own - through either user fees or private charitable contributions.
After all, my local bowling alley provides gentle exercise for older folks. And it’s a wholesome place for families to gather. Should the government therefore be funding bowling alleys?
Yes! We’re being fleeced!
“Federal spending cuts could affect aid for Holocaust survivors and kosher Meal on Wheels deliveries”
why are the Feds spending money to pay for meals on wheels and holcaust survivors in the first place?
(why are the Feds spending money to pay for meals on wheels and holcaust survivors in the first place?)
Good question!
Maths for liberal:
Holocaust survivors x 5 = moral blackmail
Could = couldn’t
(No one is asking the more obvious question, which is why it is the government’s duty to take care of Holocaust survivors.)
It shouldn’t. This is preferential treatment by the federal government they shouldn’t even be receiving.
I agree 100%. There is no reason, other than guilty feelings, for our tax dollars to be going for this separate and above any other form of meal assistance. The problem is that whomever has taken “ charity” away from churches and made it govt’s responsibility. Why aren’t the Jewish people / temples whatever supporting their own? Let the Rabbi’s get the people in their synagogues have food pantries / meal assistance. Heck they know what they can and can’t eat.
So a newborn when the camp was liberated would be 80 years old. An adult would be pushing 100. Anyone who is under 100 should have had enough time to earn full social security benefits.
Someone explain to me why they should be entitled to more money from American taxpayers than a natural born citizen. (And let's not forget the payouts from Germany and German companies.) "Since 1952, the German government has paid over $90 billion in reparations to Holocaust survivors and their heirs, "
Why is the government involved in those projects? Sorry for the holocaust, but that was 80 yrs ago in Europe, and we have $36T in debt.
Why is Federal money going to any kind of meals on wheels
Those kind of things are the function of private charities.
Why should federal tax dollar spending cuts have any impact whatsoever on the operations of private charities? It shouldn’t. They aren’t “NGO’s” if they are reliant on government funding.
