Afederal judge excoriated officials who were unable to account for $2.4 billion in taxpayer funds meant to go toward solving homelessness in Los Angeles.
U.S. District Court Judge David Carter threatened to appoint a court-ordered receiver if officials didn't improve their efforts to account for the money spent, according to an LAist report.

The judge gave them until May to fulfill their responsibilities or have a receiver take over the spending. While he acknowledged that they had inherited a "mess" from former officials, Carter demanded that they take accountibility.
“I am your worst nightmare,” Carter told them. “I can make your lives miserable.”

L.A. officials - Duh! We don't know.
Judge - You better find out or I will appoint a receiver to take over the spending.
How do you think Pelosi keeps the troops in line?
Sounds like they have a problem. I’m sure the money was in the wind a long time ago.
I like this judge’s approach. The whole article makes me smile. He dismisses their excuses and tells them to be accountable. Of course with Democrats, that is probably something they are not genetically wired to do. But oh how I would love to see him appoint a receiver to spend the money instead of letting the grifters dole it out to their family and cronies.
I can agree. The money is long gone and they don’t know where it went. At least, not on paper.
If there is any paper at all I suspect they’d prefer it was never found.
They’d rather ride out having no answers as to the money’s disposition.
All pure speculation on my part but I like my odds. :)
Hey judge wake up, it was stolen stupid. As it was always planned to be.
I agree there is a problem with their spending but in this article it doesn’t state anyhing about anyone bringing this to the judge via lawsuit. Did he just arbitrarily decide this ruling?
“Judge to L.A. officials - What happened to the 2.4 billion dollars to solve homelessness?
L.A. officials - Duh! We don’t know.”
More like:
L.A. officials - If we tell you, you’ll send us to jail.
Just like some of the Federal DOGE results, the money flows, but nobody knows.
Also, Governor Nescum has BOASTED about spending $24 BILLION on the homeless. In his idiotic podcasts, no one presses him on where all the money is/went.
There is an hilarious video of Newscum walking/touring near the homeless, but no homeless are allowed near. He is wearing a very $$-nice-$$ suit, and has an expensive coffee in one hand.
It would be interesting to see year-by-year....how homelessness and drug addiction grew, and the relationship to money-laundering as it expanded. Before Covid, there was a news segment....talking to a soup-kitchen operation. By the end, you go and figure the soup, bread, some liquid refreshment....they must have been spending $50 a day on each ‘customer’.
That’s a good observation. The article doesn’t give information about the location and time of this warning by the judge. I’ll wait and see if there is more information in the future and try to ping you if I can find it.
Public officials: We didndonuffin
Judge: That’s the problem.
Would be nice if the former officials are held to account, too.
Also whatever accounting firm they all used should be able to “show their work.”
The thievery never stops in Califraudia.
“Just like some of the Federal DOGE results, the money flows, but nobody knows.”
Yes! Per Elon, as USAID alone there were billions unaccounted for. No receipts. No project or account charge numbers. No justifications of any kind. Just missing money.
So it isn’t a crime to take such funds and dispose of them without keeping a record? So they didn’t open an off shore for themselves somewhere? I guess these guys aren’t Republicans.
This scam has been going on for decades out here in CaCaLand. Not one dime has visibly made its way to helping. Supplying needles to allow continuation of cartel funded addiction? Sure. No problem.
