CHARLIE KIRK: Here's what I learned after talking with Gavin Newsom: GOP beware
Fox News ^ | March 13, 2025 | Charlie Kirk

Posted on 03/14/2025 6:35:02 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

I had the opportunity to be the very first guest on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s new podcast last week. I’m under no illusions about why I was invited: Gavin Newsom wants to run for president in three years, and he thinks that talking conservative figures like me increase his recognition, help him present as a centrist, and cast him as a champion of the left in a time when the left has no real leaders.

….Unsurprisingly, Newsom is charming and friendly in-person. You don’t become governor of 40 million people without having some charisma. But there’s clearly a layer beneath the charm. I saw that Newsom wants to be president more than any living person (and possibly every dead person, too). He is an ambitious man, and his new podcast is clearly a product of that ambition.

… Newsom got a bit irritated when I suggested he was "slick," precisely because it’s so accurate. His show is a charm offensive, a calculated play, a rebrand for a man who knows the Democratic Party took a beating in 2024 and needs a new face. He hopes that by looking moderate on the perfect cocktail of issues, he can both get liberals to back him in a primary and then moderates and Republicans to back him in a general election.

… It might work. One thing I learned in my podcast experience: The governor isn’t a joke. He has a shark’s instincts and is hoping that voters will have a goldfish’s memory.

In a debate on FOX last year, Gov. DeSantis wiped the floor with Newsom.

He may be a clever politician, but he is not smart, as in IQ smart.

When I look at him I don’t see “slick”, I see smarmy and slimey. IOW, the opposite of what the average dem voter sees.

Yes, he has the potential to be dangerous.

Newsom is charming and friendly in-person

That may be so....but he does insane hand gestures while he is speaking...

Was laughed at on Gutfield a couple days ago..ago on Bannons War Room podcast.

It could be coke addiction or some other neurophysiology thingy.

He can say whatever he wants but he will be judged by his conduct as governor.
CA is incompetent, corrupt and perverted. Not something that will support a presidential candidacy.

Yes.

They say showing up is part of the way to success; hair gel and style is the rest.

A guy on Fox believes, seriously, Newsom is a “sociopath” who makes up what people want to hear as he gains power over them.

Sounds likely.

Hang the lunacy of California government around his neck and make him own it. Centrist, my foot.

Newsom is a poor governor but a good politician. Do not underestimate him.

At the beginning of 2016, Jeb Bush was ready to roll through the primaries. He had the name, experience, money, donors, and playbook all set. And Trump slaughtered him.

I still think Newsom was forever ruined by the fires, but it helps that the Democrats' bench is so weak.

Including California’s.

Literally this sums up every “star” Democrat - can’t speak for Gov Shapiro but yeah. Obama, AOC - skilled politicians, slick words, can’t govern a thing…and as bad as the loss was, even Kamala managed to pull in half the country because whatever weakness a Dem has, the media will make up for. And that includes Governor Newsom’s record. Media will SPIN it..
