Wanting something as a fantasy ‘wouldnt it be great’ and actually truly wanting it are two different things. I’d love it if somehow he was able to get the tech to the point where a manned mission to Mars would be possible though. As Kennedy said, we choose to go to the moon -— or mars in his case — not because it is easy but because it is hard! NASA gave up trying to do anything hard after the Space Shuttle.

Mars should only be considered - for many generations from now - as only worthy of a science station, and not for “colonization”. There are too many practical barriers to actual colonization. And don’t let todays scientists try to convince you they are anthing more than kindergartners when it comes to things like “terraforming” some other planet. Maybe 2,000 or more years from now. Maybe.

Oh it is funny.
Musk: “They ask me: Do you wanna die on Mars? And I say, ‘Well, yes, but not on impact.’”
For having a 155 IQ the man has a hell of a sense of humor.
His X account now states he is “Whitehouse tech support”...that’s hysterical!

Having been engaged in serious native plant restoration for 35 years, I can say with some authority that we don't know squat about how to "reform" this one. Best we get started here, as we just might learn something about that process.
I wish somebody would tell Musk about that, as I have a thing or two to teach him that I know he wants to learn.

Mars should only be considered - for many generations from now - as only worthy of a science station, and not for “colonization”. There are too many practical barriers to actual colonization. The technology is good enough so that we can use SpaceX's rockets to send probes and drones to Mars.
So we can use robots to build a base.
SpaceX should be able to resupply the base with supplies every 6 months.
All of this will be established in the next 20 years.
Elon Musk has the vision for it.
Once it's done, you'll have competitors. China, etc.

Once it's done, you'll have competitors. China, etc.Of course, they'll want to exploit the cheap Martian labor force. President Vance will impose tariffs on "Made on Mars" goods.
