If you have a complete and total disability, you may not be liable for repaying certain types of federal student loans. This is based on eligibility for the Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Discharge Program, which is offered through the United States Department of Education and overseen by student loan servicer Nelnet.

You need to meet specific disability requirements to qualify for loan forgiveness through this program, and there are three main ways you can get approved. If you are experiencing a total disability and you struggle to repay federal student loans as a result, read on to find out which programs provide relief and how to apply.

Of course this will be abused by those gaming the disability SSI system. LawNY.org (an evil leftist legal aid organization) is hosting a seminar on how you can get student loan forgiveness if you are "disabled" which is EXTREMELY loosely defined these days.

These leftist legal aid organizations are all over the place—and it is almost a certainty that federal funds are keeping them alive—either directly or indirectly.

We are on the verge of starving that beast.

Why should they or anyone else get their student loan forgiven, they understood the terms of the loan when they made it and agreed to pay it back. What’s next should we forgive all other loans/commitments they make too?

If one is that disabled, which sounds like it has to be pretty severe, wouldn’t reneging on a student loan be the LEAST of their problems?

If I’m fighting for my life against cancer or dealing with total paralysis...I wont much care if I’m not paying my loan.

Which PROVES this is a scam and that much small “disabilities” will be included.

Funny, I got some of those “mental issues” that could get me out of certain things but I’d be INSULTED if I was told “you dont have to pay this or do that because of your issues”.

I take the meds and I’m good to go! :)

That’s another thing...one is responsbible for taking their meds...and the actions they take if they stop.

I thought we were done with this college deadbeat horse ****. I think it’s time to shut down all colleges and universities. The bastards just cost the taxpayers way too much of their paychecks for some idiots going to college just to wear the T-shirt.

Can Trump reverse some of Biden's loan forgiveness executive orders?

I hope so.

LOL!! That’s not how it works. You have to apply for SS Disability, and be examined by SS doctors, who more than likely will reject your claim. You then have to appeal the decision, await a hearing, and be reviewed by a judge who will approve or reject your claim. You need a lawyer to proceed through all of this. But that doesn’t mean you’ll get your student loan discharged just because you’ve been approved for Disability. It depends on the percentage of disability you have suffered that makes it impossible for you to continue with the work you had been engaged in at the time the disability occurred. And if you do get approved to have your student loans discharged due to disability, you have to claim the amount of the loans discharged as income on your income taxes.

Did you know that Biden is the One that made student loans unable to be discharged in bankruptcy.

I hadn’t realized that. Thanks for the info. He probably doesn’t even remember his vote on that. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway, because Biden was never in control of anything done during his administration. His handlers totally ignored the Supreme Court decision against forgiving the loans. That whole four years was bizarro land. I pray that the 2020 election will finally get the a depth investigation it deserves.

Notice the date: 8/12/24. This was about getting votes for the Democrats in November 2024.
