Thomas Massie is, once again, introducing a one-sentence bill to terminate the Department of Education

I am really, really looking forward to the day when this annual tradition ends.

Not because I'm tired of Massie making the effort, it would just be nice if it finally passed.

I just reintroduced H.R. 899, a one sentence bill to TERMINATE the federal department of education and return power back to teachers and parents.

This is it, the entire bill: pic.twitter.com/2dLYVE9Iwn— Thomas Massie (@RepThomasMassie) January 31, 2025

Something about the single sentence, no confusion, no-nonsense bill.

The Department of Education shall terminate of December 31, 2026.

But without the Department of Education, how would kids be educated?

Better question: Are the kids being educated?

🚨NEW: 1 in 3 eighth graders are functionally illiterate, according to the Nation's Report Card.

This is the WORST 8th grade literacy rate ever recorded.

These results are a national scandal...🧵⬇️ pic.twitter.com/U3v7niQ9ix— Angela Morabito (@AngelaLMorabito) January 29, 2025

Yeah, I really don't think we can do much worse if we return the power to as local a level as possible.

Let’s see how this one line bill morphs into a zillion pages.

I worked for a state senator who introduced a one line bill having to do with the spotted owl (c.1988). When it came out of committee and went to Rules, it was 35 pages.

Won’t someone think of the bureaucrats? If the money is spent to actually educate students, who will pay for their vacation homes?

The phrase I’ve used on this and other programs is “take it out behind the barn and kill it with an ax.”

Massie, The Never-Trump master of symbolism and soundbites strikes again. Trump is doing 1000x the job of Never-Trump Massie at reigning in the federal government with DOGE and it is government-wide. Massie is a GOP hologram and a disingenuous, establishment clown.

kids today are more familiar with gender ideology and identity politics than the table of contents.

even COLLEGE kids aren’t able to read books...

as such, there’s ZERO reason to keep this dept of indoctrination in existence

If they disband the dept of education—the federal government won’t have the power to stop dei and gender confusion and other liberal crap in the public schools.

Trump just banned all that. But the enforcement mechanism is through the dept of education.

I spent grades 4 and 5 in a two-room country schoolhouse. Grades K to 6 were in one room, and 7 and 8 in the other. The rooms were separated by a partition that was opened for community meetings. The “School Board” was comprised of several local farmers who were not paid for it. My dad was the “manager” of the local creamery, with only 2 employes, my dad, and a “hired man”. The town we lived in had about 50 inhabitants.

These were probably the most significant years of my early education. The teacher, knowing that my dad had access in the creamery to thermometers, gave me an assignment to make a “Sling Psychrometer” to measure relative humidity in the classroom. It had two thermometers, one normal, and the other with a wetted cloth cover over the bulb. This meant the temperatures were different due to evaporation, and the relative humidity could be determined from a chart. All of us in the room learned about thermometers, evaporation, charts, data processing, and more.

Before this, my hobby was building model WWII airplanes and ships. Because of this, I became interested in science projects and started taking apart old radios and fixing them. This led to a career in engineering.

I doubt few grade schools of today even mention Sling Psychrometers, or even relative humidity. “Humidity” is just something you read on a digital display.

The best education, like the best politics, is ALWAYS local.
Dump the Dept of Education.
Dump the Teachers’ unions.
Restore control to the local school boards, who are answerable to the voters of their district.

To continue, it’s more important to learn about which one of the several dozen genders you wish to select, and all about the indigenous inhabitants who peacefully lived together nearby before your ancestors slaughtered them.

I tried to read and summarize the Project 2025 document which is 900+ pages long, and only got about 500 into it, but on page 319, on the opening page, of the opening paragraph, on the opening sentence of that section, it said this:

I was driven to try to read and summarize it to post on Free Republic because I went to a State Fair in Vermont in August, and saw some dweeb Leftist wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with "STOP PROJECT 2025!"

I laughed in derision, for two reasons: First, that they thought it was Trump's blueprint to run the Presidency should he win (even though he disclaimed it in a rather blunt and to me, offensive way) and Second, that I was certain the dumbasses on the Left never read the entire thing, to them it was a prop to use against Trump, The Heritage Foundation, and Conservatism in general.

I think I was wrong on both counts.

I think Trump did read Project 2025 and adopted it as his template. And I think the Leftists did read it, hence the scalded cat reactions.

Because if you look at what his Administration has done so far, it looks a lot like Project 2025, which fills me with delight based on what I read in those 500 pages I did read. (In the end, I highlighted passages but was unable to go back and summarize them because I the program I used let me make the highlights, but did not bookmark them, so I would have had to go back and go all the way through it again.
