The first job of the government is to keep people safe. Failing that, its job is to show that someone is in charge when crisis erupts. On 9/11, there was nothing then–Mayor Rudy Giuliani could do to keep the World Trade Center from falling. Yet he became, in that long-ago era, the most popular person in America by staying on the scene and leading at his city’s moment of greatest danger.
That brings us to the fires in Los Angeles—the most devastating in the history of the city, with a reported 27,000 acres burned and the fires mostly uncontained. There, authorities have failed not only at protecting its residents but at inspiring confidence that they had the situation in hand.
We start with Mayor Karen Bass. As the Palisades fire began to consume wide swaths of America’s second-largest city, she was in Ghana to watch the inauguration of that country’s new president...

‘Silver’ lining...
It’s a complete and utter failure of liberalism, on public display for the entire world to see. 10,000 homes in ashes because of the DEMOCRAT PARTY.
Y’all get what you vote for.
And what you’ll tolerate.
.
And turn it into a 15 minute city.
It’s criminal negligence.
People need to go to jail for this.
From the article “In 1969, New York mayor John Lindsay—like Newsom, a young and attractive liberal who dreamed of the presidency—saw his political career effectively end when a blizzard dropped 15 inches of snow on the city. Streets went unplowed for days, leaving the city paralyzed. Lindsay’s White House dreams ended then and there, amid heckles from his constituents.”
I was a little kid, and was at my grandmother’s house in Queens.
You could just feel the anger. I don’t even remember my relatives complaining about it, maybe they did, but it was in the air. People were absolutely irate.
NYC had had many snowstorms before, most famously the blizzard of 1888. Think that was part of the rage, we know how to deal with snow, yet Lindsey failed at it.
PS to my own post - to be fair, the snow melted, pretty sure no lives were lost nor homes destroyed. So I’ll take Lindsey’s failure over Newsome’s 8 days a week.
remember liberals put the illegals up in luxury hotels. I wonder how many of their actual citizens that are victims of these fires will be given hotel rooms?
My guess. NONE
But then that just goes to show who really owns L.A.
