Aww! What a blessing. Praying for more and more pets left behind to be spared miraculously.

‘Well, at least I haven’t got any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore,’ I read that in his Martin Riggs voice lmao

Not minimizing anyone’s loss, but when your life is spared, “it’s only stuff”, is a good attitude to have. Losing everything but your life (and your chickens) must certainly be life changing; but those who don’t have money to rebuild are in sad shape, indeed.

I love the man. Not easy to stay the course surrounded by mostly jackals. Chickens are amazing yard pets. They are really quite intelligent. My daughter used to have a chicken entourage wherever she walked on our farm. They enjoy being trained and doing tasks. I never quite had the time, but she was our “hen whisperer”

> I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff, because it’s all in cinders,” he added.

all In 1995 my rural home caught fire and burned completely while I was 25 miles away in town at work. It was pretty isolated on a hill, no nearby neighbors.

The fire department arrived in time to just wet down the ashes. Besides the house itself, I lost all my stuff, 40+ years of tools, electronics, music collection, musical instruments and gear, a lifetime of personal momentos, most of it irreplaceable.

After a little while I, like Gibson, felt relieved of the burden of the stuff. Precious though it was, it's only "stuff".

And then my next feeling was, "Okay, time to ... GET MORE STUFF!!"

30 years later, I again have a bunch of stuff. Now the problem will be how to divest myself of it before I croak, so that nobody else has to deal with it.... sigh. :-)

One of the great things about chickens roaming your property is they eat ticks like crazy. California is infested with ticks with Lyme disease.

I listened to that interview and noticed how nonchalant he was and kind of joking at times.

He jokes about just losing "stuff" but deep down he's hurting, knowing that that stuff is attached to memories, and when the reminders of those memories, "the stuff", is gone, so will be the memories.

The weird is the tell.

"but Pet Chickens Survived: 'It's Emotional'"

Gibson added that his "chickens survived, it was amazing,"

God bless those girls! Anyone who has pet chickens knows what super-love gals they are. They so need their comfort cuddles. So full of country charm! "Chicken Math" is real.

To paraphrase a famous quote from a famous someone who is likewise filled with country charm...

How often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. πŸ€”
For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me HENSforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

I understand what Mel Gibson said. We had a storage unit broken into and cleaned out by thieves. It was a great relief not to have to worry anymore about the “stuff.”

My late son moved to a rural town in AZ a few yrs ago and decided to get some ducks. He named them Fiona, Gretchen, and Gregory Peck. Only Fiona remained a yr later so he got a few more. According to his fiancΓ©e, who cares for them now, they’re messy, noisy and useless aside from their eggs. It sounds like chickens would have been a better choice, lol.
