A woman speaking to ABC 7 amid the ongoing Palisades fire disaster revealed her parents home recently had its fire coverage removed by an insurance company after living at the home for 75 years.
Legendary Hollywood actor James Woods, whose home is in danger from the fires, also stated a major insurance company canceled all policies in his neighborhood “about four months ago.”
Speaking with the media, a local woman said her 90-year-old parents “got canceled from their fire insurance,” blaming the state of California for leaving taxpaying citizens without coverage.
“They’ve lived in this house for 75 years and they’ve had the same insurance and these insurance people decided to cancel their fire,” she said. “And we’re going through this and they have no fire insurance, so thank you California insurance companies supporting residents who pay taxes and love California. And they wonder why people leave California.”
Responding to a post questioning whether or not insurance companies will treat victims better than the people who lost homes in last year’s Appalachia floods, James Woods wrote, “Actually one of the major insurances companies canceled all the policies in our neighborhood about four months ago.”
Woods also posted footage showing the fire just feet away from the deck of his home.

State Farm and Allstate recently stopped writing new policies in California due to fears they could lose massive amounts of money from natural disasters such as fires.
Newsweek reports, “In April 2024, State Farm—one of the biggest private insurers in the state—announced that it had canceled a total of 72,000 policies in California, 30,000 of which were homes. Many of those affected lived in high-risk, upscale neighborhoods in Los Angeles County, the area now affected by the Palisades fire.”
Millions of internet users blamed the state’s Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom for failing to protect citizens and posing for a photo op amid the catastrophe.
President-elect Donald Trump previously told Newsom he needed to improve forest management to reduce the risk of fires.
California’s Democrat leadership has failed residents once again, and the ongoing blazes destroying the Los Angeles area highlight this fact.
similar to WNC with no FEMA flood insurance??
we’ll see if brandon declares an emergency to cover newscum on his way out the door this week
It’s about time the Citizens pooled power and resources to SELF-INSURE as a co-op in California.
That would require legislative changes; such would be acceptable.
Let’s state some interesting facts.
1. Insurance cancelled weeks before fire breaks out
2. Reservoirs of water left empty so fires can’t be fight
3. DEI hire as fire chief
4. Massive DEI employment drive in the LA fire dept
5. LA Mayor cut 20+ million in funding to the Fire Dept
6. Newsom rejected bill to allow run-off to be made available
Prediction, in a month or 2 after all the smokes goes away CA and multiple secret investors will offer to buy up all the destroyed property for pennies on the dollar. IMO this was created more than an accident.
Good Lord...SEVENTY FIVE years of paying premiums, get your policy preemptively cancelled, cannot find another insurance company to cover you, and get wiped out in a fire.
Is there a worse managed state in the entire nation?
If the state had managed fuel load, built fire breaks, put in place sufficient resources to fight wild fires, then the insurance companies would have had management risk and probably not cancelled those poor people.
Our 92 year old neighbor across the street has a small cabin in the Sierras north of Truckee. It’s been in the family for 75 years. They had their insurance cancelled last year after having maintained it for that many years.
Everything in the country is screwed up.
“manageable risk”
Mortgage companies might not accept that solution...............

Sometimes, conspiracy theories are simple factual recitations.
75 years of premium money might have better been put in savings or stocks.
LA Mayor just cut the LA Fire Dept funding 17.6 mil too

SO coincidental that a even a caveman could foresee it...
“Prediction, in a month or 2 after all the smokes goes away CA and multiple secret investors will offer to buy up all the destroyed property for pennies on the dollar.”
The Maui fires come to mind.
coincidentally or actuarially
likely that latter
Didn’t Newsom say they had a surplus of cash so sue the government it’s their fault anyway
“better been put in savings or stocks.”
No kidding. At least then you’d have the nest egg to rebuild.
Of course, if you had a mortgage and paid it off in 30 years, you’d be required to carry insurance for the first 30 of those 75 years, so you’d only have 45 years of growth. But still...
insurance companies were forced to flee california due to untenable requirements by the california insurance commission that would guarantee massive losses if the insurance companies continued to operate in the state .... once again, the california government is to blame for this disaster ....
however, unless the entire state burns to the ground, absolutely nothing will change because the leftist moron majority will keep voting in the same fools who are destroying the state ...
The end of forest management ended with the birth and rise of the Sierra Club in the 70’s.
