A powerful winter storm is set to sweep through the nation’s capital, potentially delivering the heaviest snowfall seen since January 2022, or even as far back as 2019.
This looming weather event threatens to disrupt Monday’s planned certification of the 2024 presidential election results.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Washington, D.C., effective from 10:00 PM Sunday until 1:00 AM Tuesday, forecasting heavy mixed precipitation and urging residents to avoid travel during this period.
..... Snip.....
The severe weather is likely to impact aviation and render roads impassable, posing significant challenges for the Monday morning and evening commutes.
The timing couldn’t be more consequential, with the heaviest snowfall forecasted during the Monday morning commute—the very day Congress is set to certify the presidential election results.
Reports have emerged that several members of Congress have already fled the capital over the weekend, defying advisories to remain in D.C.
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), one of President Trump’s staunchest allies, took to social media to lambast her colleagues.
“January 6th at 1:00 pm Congress must certify President Trump’s historic election,” Greene declared in a fiery tweet.
“Washington has a winter storm warning for Jan 5-7th expecting possibly a foot of snow. Many members of Congress left town this weekend even though they were told to stay. I’m here and will walk to the Capitol if I have to.”

The foot of snow is for the mountains far from Washington DC. I am sure DC will get 5 inches or less.
Why would they leave washington because of the threat of a snow storm, when their job is to be there to be in Congress?
The new session of CONGRESS were just sworn in. WHY would they leave town to be intentionally absent?
All the reports we’ve seen are saying we will have between 6 and 10 inches.
The real problem here is usually ice.
To delay certification. They hope they can come up with four years of delays.
Lighten up, Frances.
For the 20500 ZIP code area, today’s forecast is 35F and overcast. Tomorrow’s forecast is 30F with 3 in of snow. Partly to mostly cloudy for the next week.
Take a few deep breaths, Jim. It will be business as usual (for DC).
Just re-convene in the western white house at Mar-A-Lago Florida.
Uuuggggh! Dumbocrats and RINOs using the weather as an excuse to stop Trump’s certification. Hopefully, this is a “members-present” exercise.
My thoughts also.
Mar a lago is the place you outta to be, just load up the limo and move to Trumps retreat!
WJLA TV weather is forecasting 4-9 inches of snow for the DC Metro area from tonight (Sun) through late tomorrow (Mon)
When storm systems move through one of our cloud seeding project areas, a solution containing a small amount of silver iodide is burned from ground-based generators or released from aircraft. Upon reaching the cloud, the silver iodide acts as an ice forming nuclei to aid in the production of snowflakes.
So they wouldn't have a quorum in Congress thus not being able to Certify the election.
Nothing that an AWD or FWD car can’t usually handle.
Is someone just being dramatic?
To save, ya know, democracy and all
I don’t see a lot of information on this, but in a joint session, the quorum needed is apparently a simple majority of each chamber.
I don’t know; apparently some here suspect there are people trying to upset the final certification. It seems to me that would be hard to do if not impossible.
That's no excuse. Anyone not on hand to vote, given the warning and the relative ease of transportation in 2025, is an Insurrectionist trying to destroy Our Democracy, and should be hanged.
Oh no— 5 inches of snow. We need the cartoon graphic of stick men running yelling “oh nos!” This is ludicrous bait clicking by GP. Must FReepers always respond to the fear mongers? Cause of course, NOTHING is prepared for Monday— right-— we know this—right? No, we don’t know shite.
