n a weird way, it would be better if it were a partisan issue. At least that way, one of the two parties might actually give a damn — and be incentivized to help. If the Republicans or Democrats thought they could score political points by solving the problem, maybe someone would do something.
Or at least try.
But nobody does anything. Nobody cares! And each day in America, roughly 22 veterans commit suicide.
It’s the sickest, saddest Catch-22.
Plus, it’s getting worse: the year-to-year number of suicide deaths among U.S. veterans has increased by 9% since 2022.

Thanks for your service. Much appreciated Devil Dog!

Discouragement sets in when a fighting troop realizes that we don’t win wars we merely spend our young men to die to sell more armaments.
Iraq is an example of a war desired by Bush I, Bush II and the evil Cheney. WMD was a lie, and they all knew it.
Vliet Nam was a colossal mistake. This mess was fostered by Democrats, then when JFK decided to weaken and then pull out, he was murdered.
Call Congress: (202) 224-3121 U.S. House switchboard operator.
Shakeup Congress on social media.

JFK got us into Vietnam and he was not pulling out, that is another myth the left has created for him.

“but these people who say that we ought to withdraw from Vietnam are wholly wrong because if we withdrew from Vietnam the communists would control Vietnam, pretty soon Thailand Cambodia Laos Malaya would go and all of Southeast Asia would be under the control of the communist another domination of the Chinese then India Burma would be the next target so I think we should stay”
Thanks for serving. RIP uncles Bill, Frank, Cliff and Al. They made it back. They worked and raised families. They did not take their own lives. Condolences too families and friends of those who didn’t make it. RIP.
If you want to reduce suicide among vets, then start informing them of the religious aspects of suicide and their relation to God.
Many vets would respond and be affected by being informed of suicide from a biblical perspective, for many, it would mean that the suicide option would have to be taken off the table for them personally.
I remember Carl Higbie on Newsmax talking about how he had to seek therapy after coming home from Iraq after fighting over there as a Navy SEAL. He had endured holding dying brothers in his arms and other atrocities, then he’d be over here, getting uncontrollably angry because somebody was bitching about having too much foam in his latte at Starbucks. After what he’d been through, it was aggravating for him to see people arguing over these petty things. So he needed therapy to get his emotions under control.
Thank you for defending our country.
I can definitely relate to this article, and yes, it is a national disgrace. As a veteran, in recent months I discovered first hand how little the government cares for us/me. I could tell you a tale, but it would take a months of Sundays to tell it. Suffice to say I’ve come to the point where I no longer care if I ever receive any disability benefits from the VA.
Lots of us care but cannot control the government’s abominable treatment of our veterans.
I think people - generally - do give a damn. But when terminally-corrupt totalitarian politicians have control of all the levers of power in a society, decency and honor take a permanent holiday. When a high tax and regulation society is structured so that regular people will never have enough money to begin to make ends meet, regular people will become sell-outs to those operating those levers of powers. You will end up being a society of sell-outs at every level. And it will appear that people don’t give a damn about honor and decency and helping those who are casualties of our very system. The people who appear not to care and even appear hostile (in word at least) are themselves caught up in this dystopian, corrupted society that serves only the most ravenous and soulless amongst us.
Excellent❗ We fight and 'win' wars THEN surrender to the enemy... Afghanistan, abandoning $billions of weapons of war... Iraq, defeating radical Islam then surrendering our victory to Iran. Think of all the heroic American combatants, dead or maimed, seeing the principles for battle that they fought for suddenly discarded and the people they were authorized to eliminate become the new government.
They gave their all for duty to their country and then that country abandoned all the principles that they sacrificed for. Now they have no moral high ground... they have become war criminals!
Nice deconstruction.
MAYBE things will improve under Doug Collins, assuming he is confirmed by the Senate.
Veterans do not kill themselves substantially more than their peers who did not serve.
This is just an anti-military talking point of the left.
Not sure if it is so much a scandal as it is our history.
Low-lifes in congress reneged on paying the soldiers who fought with Washington.
Look up the “Bonus Army” march in 1932.
I’ll never forget growing up in a small rural town of a 1000 in the heartland.
There was a small square or park in the middle of town.
In the summer there were usually two or three old men sitting on benches in the park.
They always wore suit coats even though the summers could be quite warm.
Their dress and demeanor gave them a dignity that set them apart from the locals many of whom wore bib overalls which was quite common fashion in rural America at the time.
One day I asked my father who they were.
He said they were vets who were pensioners from WWI and maybe even the Spanish-American War.
They lived in rooms that were formally a hotel when this little town had seen better days.
In today’s world these forgotten men would have likely been homeless.
My father, a WWII vet lamented that those guys in WWI had it rough.
My father had been treated better for his service as the GI Bill had given him the opportunity to get his master’s degree.
As for me, I could now be living in Canada, if the draft lottery had not saved my bacon and kept me from being drafted into that abomination of a UNCONSTITUTIONALLY declared war in Vietnam.
When it comes to matters of war NEVER trust the gubmint.
The military industrial complex makes up phony wars in far off lands to serve their self-interest.
That said, “I’d have gladly volunteered to serve if our country was being invaded by foreign enemies.”
Put me on a border wall and let me man a machine gun.
But the military industrial complex would rather play at war in far off lands like Afghanistan that protect the homeland from invasion.
Every time I go to the VA they ask me if I’m having thoughts of suicide, but I don’t know what happens if you say “yes”.

You can guess, though... right? You’d be put on an FBI “domestic terrorist” watchlist, for one thing. They would direct you to a gov-approved therapist... one that would probably help you decide to kill yourself. Any future “plans” they have would probably include you as a possible scapegoat perp. These are the first, most obvious, speculations I could make to answer that question.... going by what we’ve already seen and already know about how the DS government ‘works’.
"We're from the government and we're here to help."
