China’s Unveils Two New Stealth Fighters In One Day (Or Maybe a Stealth Bomber?)
19FortyFive ^ | 12/27/2024 | Sebastien Roblin

China has unveiled two prototype sixth-generation stealth fighters, potentially surpassing the J-20. The Chengdu design is notable for its large size, tailless configuration, and unique three-engine setup. The Shenyang prototype appears smaller and more traditional.

China has a real problem with it’s engines and their jets can’t go very far without a ton of refueling

To what end: create drag? LOL. No. Compression is already done inside the engine.

I’m with you. That plane looks like more like a movie prop.

Also, those fans are WAY too small to be of any use. They won’t let nearly enough air into the engine to produce any appreciable thrust. If we made our inlets that small, the plane would never get off the ground, and we have the best engines in the world.

It’s not a near thing of “are they real or not?” They’re absolutely laughable.

Sure that’s not a movie prop?

We don't know if this was a prototype or a demonstrator. The US already has flown 2 prototypes. We are moving forward, but far too slowly.
Hopefully, Congress will now appropriate more funding for both the Air Force and Navad NGAD programs. We are in a second Cold War with an active proxy war in Ukraine, and a proxy war and indirect war in the Middle East. 850 Billion is not enough. It's not even 3% of projected 2024 US GDP. We should be spending 4% to 5% of GDP to cover current needs, modernization, and research and development. By 2040, the US will be fielding or building new combat rifles, a new light tank, new mobile and static anti-aircraft and anti-drone systems, a new anti-ICBM system, The E-7A AWACS system, new tankers, the B-21 stealth bomber, F-15EX II, USAF NGAD manned fighter, NGAD drones, a new ICBM and control complex, the Columbia class SSBN, a replacement for the Virginia class SSN, the DDG(X) destroyer, 32+ Constellation Class Frigates, unmanned underwater drone submarines and minisubs, optionally crewed ships (missile boats and anti-submarine), and support ships. We need thousands of current anti-aircaft missiles, stealthy cruise missiles, anti-ship missiles, anti-tank missiles, and cheaper alternatives ASAP. It's 1947 again but without the post-war stockpiles, a diminished military industrial base, and a laughable industrial and shipbuilding base.

I’ve shifted my focus to that thick black thing on top. I first figured it was some sort of rubberized cover to protect or hide something, but if that’s the case I’m puzzled as to why it would have such a complex surface contour rather than be simply smooth. And if the contour is to accommodate a similar contour on what’s underneath, that seems odd as to why such a contour would be necessary. And if it’s not a removable cover but an integral part of the aircraft, with those edges it would reflect radar like nobody’s business. There’s no sawtooth pattern. It doesn’t seem to make any sense.

Too many things about that aircraft are wrong for it to be real. For me, though, the engine inlets are the real deal-breaker. They’re about the size of the Jumo-004B inlets on the Me-262: completely useless today with modern thrust requirements. And their placement is totally wrong for any stealth aircraft. Overall, the plane looks like something some teenager whipped up because he thought it looked cool, not something a real aircraft designer would implement.

They'll fall out of the sky the instant the warranties expire.

Iran built its own stealth fighter in 2017, so perfect that nobody has ever seen one.

Personally I'll wait until they turn up on Alibaba. They have some great deals.

“I don’t think this is a real plane. I really don’t.”

The fact we are looking at these pictures from side angles instead of satellite tells me it is fake.

The problem with drone swarms is that they work both ways. They can also be defeated. Any nation under such attacks that they might lose could just as easily resort to nuclear weapons. A nuclear swarm is far more devastating than a drone swarm.

No sawtooth landing gear doors. Sharp angles on the engine intakes. Some kind of flaperon/spoilers for Yaw/Roll control. Not very stealthy, and somewhat problematic from an aero standpoint.

The F-117 is in ACTIVE retirement, whatever that means. Perhaps used mostly for training.

The placement of the side landing gear on the tailless one is bizarre. They’ve made it impossible to place any munitions along the sides. They would have to go along the centerline, I presume in a carousel configuration. And if there’s another engine along the top centerline, then where the heck are the munitions supposed to go?

The hell??? There’s nowhere to put munitions! Remember where the side landing gear are.

There’s something else about this that I don’t get. The side engines seem awfully small relative to the size of the aircraft. Either the aircraft is very large (MiG-25 or larger) or the engines are pathetically small.
