The European Parliament’s Sarah Knafo said it’s time to stop “totalitarian temptations” by the European Central Bank and adopt Bitcoin.
European lawmaker Sarah Knafo called on the European Union to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve while rejecting the proposed adoption of the “digital euro,” a central bank digital currency (CBDC) under development by the European Central Bank (ECB).
Knafo, a French magistrate and a member of the European Parliament since June, delivered a pro-Bitcoin speech calling on European lawmakers to launch a strategic BTC reserve.
“No to the digital euro, yes to a strategic Bitcoin reserve,” Knafo said in an X post, which included a video of her speech before the European Parliament.
The lawmaker said that it’s time to stop “totalitarian temptations” by the ECB, calling for a shift from regulatory overreach in crypto to adopting the decentralized nature of Bitcoin.

Let me be the first to say “tulips.” 🤡
Tulips aren’t scarce, aren’t fungible, can be censored, are not infinitely divisible, etc. So no, not like tulips.
I was being facetious. I just ordered a Trezor Model One to move my tulips to cold storage.
Good man. Not your keys, not your tulip bulbs...
How is switching to bitcoin not totalitarian?
Because Bitcoin is not tied to any central bank or country. Therefore, a central government cannot turn it on or off. Bitcoin cannot be inflated like dollars or central bank currency.
Those are two of the reasons why Bitcoin is better than a central bank digital currency.
I am a little surprised to hear this. Welcome to the “tulip club.” Ha ha.
The real question is, why would anyone imagine that bitcoin it "totalitarian" when it was designed to be anti-totalitarian? "Yes, [we will not find a solution to political problems in cryptography,] but we can win a major battle in the arms race and gain a new territory of freedom for several years." - Satoshi Nakamoto
220% ahead so far.
The Bible passages people cite for stuff like this describe a mark on people and punishment for those who do not comply. Notice that they say nothing about one currency or another being involved for payment. It’s weird (and frustrating) how so many people make stuff up in their heads and think it’s “biblical” when they are actually completely departing from the actual text. Maybe there will be a single global currency, and maybe not. And maybe it will be a CBDC, or maybe it will be tulips for all we know. None of that ties in to the biblical text. (And note that a mark may - or may not - involve a microchip or whatever bugaboo people imagine.)
They with have to control the money supply somehow
I am not convinced of a microchip because the Greek word is “epi”
Now they ARE trying for an implantable microchip for passports 🛂 and even microchips for payments
To me it’s important to wake up the world to the Scriptures
YMMV
You jumped in before me. I’m around 150% now.
And for any FReeper reading this, I did not, and I do not recommend anyone investing anything more than what you can afford to, or are willing to lose.
Explain to me how bitcoin can survive the decrypting power of quantum computing.
I’d rather have tulips on my organ than...forgot the rest.
OK. I thought it was more controlled than that.
However, doesn’t it that it need the internet to work? And if the internet goes down, then what?
