"Some of the 'greatest' minds in America have gathered in the pages of the country’s leading weekly to declare how little they understand things now, and how little they care to understand them moving forward."

"The New Yorker drew together some of its highest-end chroniclers of the American zeitgeist, who then reveled proudly in their own attachments to in-group biases and cliches. They celebrated a kind of communion with their suffering readership, who found comfort in the certainties these writers gave them. This communion is grounded in ignorance."

Also “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.”―Napoleon I. And these jamokes are clueless.

One of the benefactors to the large money laundering scam of Kamala’s election campaign funds, no doubt. This scheme has been going on for decades.

Point made. Spend $1B in 3+ months? And 4 big media companies get most of it. No grifting going on there...

And these jamokes are just not that elite. In my 50+ years on this planet I’ve known an All American athlete, a self-made billionaire (my boss), a scientist with multiple patents, and I could go on. My point is these midwits just are not that great comparatively speaking. I’m done with their appeals to authority and lack of common sense.

She spent a billion dollars and is reportedly as much as 20 million dollars in debt.

I wonder if they are hitting up their donors for more money to pay off the campaign debt?

I used to be somewhat in awe of the so called elite but 20 plus years on FR has wiped out that delusion for me. Actually I would say the first year here pretty much completed that bit of education.

Destroying the reputation of the self-appointed “elites” is a critical part of our job here.

They make it easy for us.

Terrific article, beautifully written:

Perhaps the higher levels of the American media complex, masquerading in the clothing of a different century, should embrace their essentially patrician urges and accept their permanent bafflement at the inscrutable, inexplicable passions of the American polity, thus exempting themselves from any deep concern about what the rest of us are up to.

I long ago learned that the very rich are generally not smarter than us. I’ve seen some of the stupidest things done by rich elitists.

But they just move on and since they have piles of money their life is not negatively affected like it would be for me.

If I blew $20k on something dumb I’d be a wreck. They just go on to the next thing, generally oblivious to the mess they left behind.

I hear you. In my time my mother has known an All American athlete, I've worked with a number of software millionaires, I've supported at least 8 scientists with multiple patents (including a pure mathematician who cared more about photography than his job) and several retired Generals who would after a few months as a civilian would talk with anybody who would listen.

All the people types mentioned that I actually knew ranged from politically conservative to neutral. I worked in hot spots such as Silicon Valley and right next to Fort Meade. The only people I knew in those times and places who were not friendly and at least Poli Neutral were those trying to suck up to their betters.

The suck ups tended to be hostile and hateful.

Used to peruse copies of this pretentious rag in my high school library for the James Thurber and Charles Addams cartoons. Never had reason to after their passing.
